Newcastle Manager Graeme Souness believes Newcastle’s lack of cutting edge players cost them in the InterToto Cup.
Souness said:
"Playing against top-class opposition, we didn't have the door openers,"
"The players we are after are top-class - the top players at their clubs.
"But we've got to remember that Deportivo are a team that are used to playing Champions League football".
"We had our chances and you can't legislate for the way we gave away the goals.
"I would hate to think that we are going to give any more goals like that away through the season.
"We had got ourselves back into game but that goal killed it for us, but these things can happen and we have got to accept that."
"I think we did well in the first half and Emre was very good when you consider that he has not played a lot of football, and Scott has played even less,"
"Scott's not played for six months, but he kept going and going.
"It's the same for Emre - he didn't play a lot of football last season.
"I was delighted with both of them and our supporters will like them. You've got to give them enormous credit."
