Kieron Dyer, aged 27, and who was only told by caretaker boss Glenn Roeder that he would be playing agaisnt Southampton at 1pm on the day of the FA Cup match, admits how all of his frustration came out when he scored the winning goal.
The England international was handed a place in the starting XI, as Alan Sheraer was force to sit out the game through injury - something which the midfielder himself has suffered from this season, having previously started only two games this season (hamstring and health problems).
Kieron Dyer: "When I scored, it was just like all the frustration came out.
"I wanted to celebrate the goal with the fans, and it was brilliant to get smothered like that and enjoy the goal. I'm just thankful that we are through to the quarter-finals as well.
"When you are in the gym, you are obviously pushing yourself for days like this. The next couple of days will be crucial. Hopefully my legs will feel okay and I won't have any reaction and it's the first stepping stone to regaining full fitness."
