Halifax Towns remaining senior squad player Matt Clarke has told the Yorkshire Sport that Halifax Town are holding him back from joining Blackpool.

When the season finished and the club went into administration, all the squad members were sacked apart from Clarke because it was thought an offer from Blackpool was imminent.

But, the offer has never come which has led to Matthew Clarke being left as the surviving member of the squad that took the team back out of the football league.

The administrator Peter O'Hara ordered Tony Kniveton to try and get the move sorted a couple of weeks ago accepting no less than £40,000 for the player. But it seems that Blackpool are trying to get him even cheaper which has led to the deal collapsing.

Even though Matt Clarke is still under contract, he has the cheek to claim Halifax Town are holding him back and is pleading with the club to release him from his contract.

Well, I think we can all sympathise with Clarke, but he is contracted to Halifax Town, and if no club does come in for him then he should quite rightly start the new season as a player at Halifax Town.

Blackpool will be happily waiting for the Shaymen to release Clarke so that they can then get him on a free and join him back up with his brother, Chris, who joined the seasiders in April.

But we should stick to our guns. Clarke is not a high earner at the club, so hopefully we can hold out and start the season with Clarke still a Town player and then hopefully we can command a fee.
