Walters Asked For Transfer

Town manager Roy Keane says club captain Jon Walters did request a transfer away from Portman Road earlier in the summer.
Over the past two months Walters has been linked with moves to QPR, Stoke and Wigan, with QPR reportedly bidding £2.5 million for the 26-year-old and Stoke £3 million and it is that interest that sparked Walters wanting to leave.
Town manager Roy Keane: "Jon came to me and said he was aware of interest in him and that he wanted out of Ipswich.
"These were his exact words and you can quote me on that.
"Players get their heads turned and we all live in the real world, well I know I do. Do players get tapped up? Absolutely, 100 per cent.
"Can I prove it? Obviously not, unless I get hold of managers' and agents' phone bills.
"It's the way of the world and although sometimes you tip-toe round problems I've told him he can go, as long as we receive what we think he's worth.
"Maybe I need to stop praising players but while Jon has done well for this club I'm pretty sure there have been others over the past 20 or 30 years.
"Players always come and go - none of them are bigger than the club.
"I tried to talk Jon out of it but not for too long, I have to say. I told him he can go when the time - and the figure - is right."
