Ipswich Town manager Joe Royle hopes to play Town youngster Dean Bowditch is a role similar to that of Arsenal’s Dennis Bergkamp.

Dean who scored Town’s first goal in the 2-1 win over Coventry City on Sunday is in line to play for the England under 19 side tonight at Carrow Road.

Today Royle revealed his long term plans for the youngster and why he decided to play Dean on Sunday, saying: “I decided to play the lad because we had heard Coventry were having problems at the back and he did well.

“He has fantastic potential and can play in a number of positions. He has the pace and the talent enough to play wide but I see his best position as down the middle long-term, just off the main front player.

“If you like, playing in a similar role to the one Dennis Bergkamp operates in for Arsenal.”.
