The 16 year old academy scholar made his first team debut for Town on Sunday, coming on with ten minutes left during Towns 2-0 defeat against Sunderland and despite being a tea boy rather than a tractor boy on the journey up the A1 to the stadium of light Darryl enjoyed his first game for the first team.

Knights: “I was the tea boy on the coach going up but I soon got used to it and enjoyed the whole thing.

“It was by far my best experience so far in football.

“When I got the call to warm up I was shaking but once I got on the pitch I was alright.

“It was quality, the fans were so good to me, it was brilliant.

“I tried to get on the ball as much as I could and it went well for me. Now I have the taste, I definitely want more. Hopefully, I can keep improving and then I will get another chance.”

Born and breed in Ipswich he admires foreign imports to the English game such as Arsenal’s Thierry Henry but wants to model him self on some of the talent grown close to home such as Darren Bent, Darren Ambrose and Titus Bramble, Knights added: “Thierry Henry is brilliant but those three are the heroes for me. They are the ones I have looked up to since I first got here.

“I appreciate what they have come through and, perhaps, that is why.”

Just over 24 hours after his debut Darryl was back to his day job, playing for the Ipswich reserve side against Fulham and that is still his first priority, adding: “The reserves is my main thing and the first team is just a bonus at this stage.

“My ambition for this season is to get another first-team game.”
