Ipswich Town are today expected to sign Brighton midfielder Darren Currie, he is due at Portman Road today to discuss terms and under go a medical.

Ipswich Town are today expected to sign Brighton midfielder Darren Currie, he is due at Portman Road today to discuss terms and under go a medical.

The 30 year old can play down either wing or up front was part of the West Ham yet set up at the same time as Matt Holland and Kevin Horlock, left West Ham with out making a appearance for the East London side and joined Shrewsbury in 1996, before moving onto Plymouth in March 1998 on a short term deal.

That summer he joined Barnet where he made 127 appearances scoring 19 goals which was enough to convince Wycombe to pay £200,000 in the summer of 2001.

Currie was released by Wycombe during the summer and joined Brighton after a two week trial at the withdean stadium and has scored two goals in 23 games for the seagulls this season.

If the deal goes ahead Currie will be Towns first cash signing since 2001 when £3million was handed over to Blackburn for the services of Marcus Bent.
