Ipswich Town went out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle this year, losing 3-1 against premiership side Bolton Wanderers.
Despite being able to match their premiership visitors for an hour Town got hit three times in less than 10 minutes only managing one in reply.
A slightly weakened Town had the better of the first half chances and came close to being 1-0 up when Darren Bent had a header cleared off the line and Shefki Kuqi tested his international team mate Jussi Jaaskelainen on a few occasions.
The first half came and went without a goal, Town manager Joe Royle decided to make a double substitution on 58 minutes bringing one Pablo Couñago and Tommy Miller in place of Darren Currie and Jim Magilton.
Two minutes later Bolton made the break though, Giannakopoulos simply placing in Diouf’s pass to make it 1-0.
Five minutes later Pedersen made it 2-0, Diouf again the supplier Pedersen hitting home from 18 yards out into the bottom right of the goal. Pedersen made it 3-0 almost a replica of his first just with the assist from Kevin Nolan.
Tommy Miller made it 3-1 with 20 minutes to go, Pablo Couñago held the ball up well inside the Bolton box and played the ball across to Miller who made no mistake with his right foot from 18 yards. How ever Miller’s goal was only consolation.
A pretty good performance from an under strength Town side against a premier league side that until a bad run recently had been mixing it with big boys at the top end of the table, if we go up in my opinion we will have nothing to fear.
