Young Ipswich town striker Billy Clarke will have surgery to clear up the damage he sustained in the FA Youth Cup Semi Final against Spurs.

The 17-year-old Irishman sustained medial ligament damage during Town’s youth teams win against Spurs in the FA Youth Cup semi-final second leg.

Before Billy went into hospital today he said: “I'm having the operation and then it will be a few weeks rest before building up the knee and my fitness during the summer, I was obviously disappointed to miss out on the Youth Cup Final but the lads did great and I was able to join in the celebrations on crutches.

“It's all about next year for me now though and I just want to get back to fitness and playing football again.”

Clarke missed out on the FA Youth Cup final because of the injury but he did not miss out on the Dale Roberts Academy Player of the year Award which he picked up last night.
