Ipswich Town are close to signing Cardiff City and Republic of Ireland striker Alan Lee on permanent basis.

The 27-year-old striker has found him self on the bench a lot at Ninian Park this season, partly due to Cameron Jerome scoring the goals for Cardiff, although Lee has still managed to net twice this campaign.

“Our chairman is talking to Cardiff's chairman about Alan coming to the Club and we are close but nothing is definite yet, it won't happen before the weekend but we are hopeful for next week. There will be a fee involved and it will be a permanent deal.”

Alan started his footballing career with Aston Villa but left in 1999 and joined Burnley in a £200,000, a year later he left Turf Moor and moved to Millmoor and joined Rotherham where his 35 goals in 101 league games prompted the Blue Bird to splash out £850,000 for his services in 2003.
