Some worrying news as Turner answers Pools fans

First the good news – top scorer Joel Porter looks likely to be fit for Hartlepool’s vital League One survival game at Yeovil on Saturday. He limped off midway through the second half of Monday’s home flop against Scunthorpe, but his knee injury is clearing up and he has taken part in training since.

Now, the bad news – Pools have no idea who will be manager next season and they haven’t started talking to players whose contracts are due to expire during the summer.
This and more has emerged from the latest batch of questions from fans answered by caretaker manager Chris Turner (right) on the club website.
He and the club deserve credit for taking the bull by the horns and going through this exercise, because in recent seasons Pools have not been the best in the world at PR, and fans have accused the club of keeping them in the dark.
Turner has admitted that Danny Wilson was not a great lover of forums or question-and-answer sessions, but he believes they are a valuable link between club and fans.
In the second batch of questions, Turner is asked for an update on the possibility of signing any of the current loan players permanently and on talks with those players whose contracts are due to expire in June.
He says Pools will follow their usual (annoying) pattern and not hold formal talks until the season ends, but he adds that he has spoken to those involved already. The contracts of between nine and 12 of the current squad are up for renewal and Turner says: “I have been concerned for a long time about players running to the end of contracts who are regulars in the first team.”
On fans wanting to know who they will be watching before buying a season ticket, he adds: “I understand why you would hold out to look at the new signings … we are very conscious that we did not bring in any new players at the end of last season.”
Asked for an update on the manager situation, Turner responds: “Come the end of the season we will sit down with everybody and discuss which is the best way forward.”
Asked for a comment on Pools’ recent defensive lapses, Turner says that it is not individuals conceding goals, but the whole team.
So it was the whole team that headed back for Scunthorpe’s second goal on Monday, was it, and not Michael Nelson?
Turner adds: "If we had the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in our defence, we wouldn’t keep a clean sheet every week because we are not strong enough defensively in other positions.”
But it’s not all doom and gloom … Turner says Pools will try to sign rune Lange during the summer and he believes the club has the best scouting system it has ever had.
All in all, answering questions like this is a massive step in the right direction.
Whether Tuner will be able to do all he wants to do remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, Pools MUST get something at yevol, preferably a win, if they are to ease their relegation fears. Porter's fitness could be vital, and the chances are the steam will be sent out to go for broke and try to win.
If they do, their worries for this season may be over - then we can start worrying about next season.
