Bell Challenge Cup Draw

July 12 2002

Stranraer have been drawn against Ayr United in the first round of the Bells Challenge Cup on August 6th. Last season the Blues beat their Ayrshire neighbours 3-2 in the second round of the competition. Can they do it again this year?

Ayr United are the opposition!

Billy McLaren will have his first real test of the season on August 6th when the Blues play host to Ayr United in the first round of the Bells Challenge Cup. Last year the clubs met in the second round. Goals by Finlayson, Harty and Wright gave the Blues a 3-2 win and a third round tie against beaten finalists Alloa Athletic.

Other ties included Gretna playing Queen's Park at Hampden and Airdrie United squaring-off against Raith Rovers. Last years winners, Airdrie, will, of course, be unable to defend their title. The longest trip on the day sees Queen of the South travel to Peterhead.

Annand celebrates!
Eddie Annand celebrates after scoring last season. With a semi final loss against Rangers last season in the CIS Cup, the Honest Men will be looking for another cup run this year - it's Stranraer's job to stop them!

The Blues will play Ayr United at Stair ParkPark on August 6th, 2001.
