Stranraer have played Cowdenbeath a total of 109 times since the teams first met in the Scottish Cup in season 1946/47 (Cowdenbeath won the match 0-5). In that time Stranraer have won 35 matches and drawn 28, while Cowdenbeath have won 46 of the encounters. The last encounter between the two teams was in mid-April when Stranraer drew the game 1-1. In that encounter Stevie Aitken scored a 89th minute equaliser after Iain Mauchlen had put the home side ahead in the 36th minute. Last season Stranraer won both of their home games against Cowdenbeath. The big question is can they repeat it this season?.

After last weeks well deserved point at Kircaldy, McLaren's men bowed out of the Bells Cup on Tuesday night with a very unconvincing display against First Division Ayr United. Missing the game on Tuesday due to suspension was Kevin Finlayson, who should make it back into the first eleven after an inspirational performance in last Saturdays league opener. Still out is Paul Kerr who has another two matches to miss through his carried over suspension. It is not known if Billy will be making any changes to the team who lost midweek, but with almost a full squad to choose from, they are expected. At the time of writing there were no injuries affecting the Stranraer squad. |

The Blue Brazil are currently lying bottom of Division Two after last weeks 3-1 home defeat to Hamilton Accies, but may take some heart from the fact that they took First Division Ross County to extra-time in Tuesdays Bells Cup, before eventually crashing out 2-0. Cowdenbeath manager is former Raith, Dundee and Hibs goal machine Keith Wright, who will be bringing down former Hibs team-mates Mickey Weir (assistant) and coach Joe Tartalano as part of his back-room staff.
Who should Stranraer keep and eye on? Read on and find out. Hamish French - The 38 year old midfielder is most remembered for his days with Dunfermline, and being the best Ravenlli look alike this side of Whauphill!! Was alsowith Dundee United in the early part of his career, and signed for Keith Wright from Alloa. Has scored 4 league goals so far in his Cowdenbeath career.
Willie Miller - 33 year old defender was signed after being freed by Raith during the close season, and has also had a spell down south with Wrexham. Most remembered for his days with Hibs where he made over 244 league appearances. Michael Renwicks - This 26 year old defender is another ex-Hibs man in the Blue Brazil ranks. After his time at Easter Road, he then moved onto Ayr, but didn't make too much of an impression and was loaned out to Morton and Cowdenbeath, before signing during the close season. Craig Winter - Signed in 1994 from Raith Rovers, this 26 year old midfielder has been a stalwart of the Cowdenbeath team for a while now and has made 128 league appearances and scored 14 goals.
Graham Brown - 22 year old South African born striker, who was booked on Saturday against Hamilton Accies. He has scored 40 league goals from 169 appearances. Last season the tall forward scored two goals against the Blues, the first in the 2-2 draw at Central Park and the second in the 2-1 defeat in late December.

The only club connection is midfielder Michael (Mick) Oliver (formerly assistant manager at now defunct Clydebank) who played one game for Stranraer (season 85/86) having played for Cowdenbeath in season 1982/83. Oliver also played for several other clubs including Falkirk, Queen of the South, Albion Rovers & Stenhousemuir.
