SPL clubs expect to lost money

A headline featured in the media today, but it could have been used any time over the last 15 years, is this really news?

The BBC carried the results of a survey from accountants PKF, which stated the survey was taken before the Sky deal was arranged at the start of the season. It fits with the feeling of Armaggedon when Rangers were placed in the Third Division.

There is also a concern raised that many clubs are reliant on the major shareholder to bail them out when the going gets tough. This can only mean a couple of clubs, possiblyAberdeenand Hearts, as the rest have claimed they can’t afford to keep doing it.

Dundeearea already fan owned and Motherwell are moving in that direction, while St. Mirren fans have failed to take over their club. This doesn’t sound like clubs relying on their shareholders to survive.

Surely it is hardly news that SPL clubs will lose money, has that not always been the way for the last 15 years or so, and they are all still going. Therefore it is hardly news to put this kind of story out in 2012, particularly as the survey was taken before a major injection of funds.

There is also a comparison between the earning sinScotlandandEnglandstressing the widening gap between the amount being paid either side of the border. Again, this is hardly news, as it has always been the same.

But the inflated wages inEnglandare not without their problems either, with clubs outside the Premier League struggling on a regular basis, look at the plight ofPortsmouthandCoventry.

Then in the top flight of English football, who actually makes money, Man Utd,ChelseaandManCitydon’t report profits. But there are no stories saying EPL clubs will be losing money, not as good a story!!
