Stockport’s First home game back in Division 1 is against a team tipped for good things this season Queens Park Rangers.
QPR got off to a good start on Saturday with a good 3-1 win over Chesterfield. Goals from Furlong, Landon and Gallon have given much hope to their fans for promotion this season. Those 3 goalscorer’s all give great experience to a travelled QPR team, which with County’s youth could prove to their advantage. On loan from Premiership side Birmingham City, Paul Furlong is a proven goal scorer in the Football League. County will be lifted however, by the news QPR’s top scorer last season, Andy Thompson, will miss the game due to injury. Thompson is no stranger to Stockport. He almost joined us in the summer after his QPR contract expired and Palmer stated Thompson wished to make a return up north. But things turned sour as Thompson renewed his deal with the Loftus Road club and Palmer claimed he used Stockport to earn a better deal from the London club.
This is however in the past and the capture of Division 2 hotshot Ben Burgess helped fill the hole left when this gap collapsed. Burgess was widely expected to make his first Stockport start against Colchester on Saturday. Palmer however chose to start with Luke Beckett and Irish Under 21 Jon Daly.
Daly, 19, has just forced his way into the Irish Under21 setup after a brace of goals during the Summers Youth’s equivalent of the World Cup. But it could be too soon to throw Daly into the starting line-up, weighting un-needed pressure upon him.
Burgess will probably start against QPR, alongside Luke Beckett who he seemed to start to link up with well during the last 10 minutes or so of the Colchester game, accumulating with a Beckett header crashing against the woodwork.

Our Prediction
After a disappointing start to the season, Carlton is expected to make a few changes to his side. I think this will come good and see a much-improved performance from the midfield.
Last time out at Edgeley Park when these two sides met it ended in a 2-2 draw. I think it could be a similar result with a draw, and I think theirs a goal or 2 there if we take our chances.
