#32 - Marton Fulop

Fulop played only one game for Sunderland in 2007-08 – the last game at home to Arsenal at the Stadium of Light – after spending much of the campaign out on loan.

The Hungarian international goalkeeper joined Championship side Leicester for the first half of the season, playing 24 games for the Foxes, before he was recalled by Roy Keane. He then joined Stoke in the New Year but was again recalled before making an appearance for the Potters.

Fulop played only five games in 2006-07 after spending the majority of the campaign as cover for Ward. Those games included an impressive display in a 1-1 draw at Birmingham and the final day 5-0 win at Luton which clinched the Championship title.

Sunderland completed the signing of Fulop from Tottenham in the January 2007 Transfer window after he originally joined the club on loan in November 2006.

The 6ft 5ins shot-stopper was brought in as emergency cover after a recent injury to Ben Alnwick left Darren Ward as Sunderland’s only recognised senior ‘keeper.

Fulop spent the most of the 05-06 season on loan with Coventry, where he made 33 appearances, keeping six clean sheets. He began his career with MTK Hungaria in 2001 before being loaned out to BKV Elore and then Bodajk FC in his homeland.

He joined Tottenham for a nominal fee in July 2004 after a three-day trial at White Hart Lane.

He enjoyed a brief loan spell with Chesterfield between March and May 2005, making seven appearances for the Spireites, keeping two clean sheets.

Fulop represented his country at Under-21s level and then made his full Hungarian debut as a half-time substitute in a friendly against France in May, 2005, keeping a clean sheet for the second period. He was also a half-time sub in a friendly against Austria in August 2006.
