Sam Allardyce is Favourite

Big Sam Allardyce

The search to find a replacement for Roy Keane as Sunderland Manager is well underway after his, somewhat of a shock departure, twelve days ago. Sunderland Chairman Niall Quinn has the task of finding the right man to lift the Black Cats out of the relegation zone but will not rush into appointing a new man at the helm which can only be for the good of the club.

The bookies have made Sam Allardyce favourite at around 6-4.

2008-12-16 - alan-curbishley SAFCWhile other names in the hat for the job are Alan Curbishley (11-4), Avram Grant (7-1), Gordon Strachan (15-2) and Gerrard Houllier (8-1) and now Ricky Sbragia, although he hasn't ruled himself in or out of the running for the job.

The Sunderland job is very attractive; a big club with a good, passionate fan base and probably one of the best Chairmen the game has to offer in Niall Quinn.

Quinn has promised the new manager that he will have money to spend during the transfer window in January. Who would you like to see the new man bring in?

2008-12-16 - Gordon Strachan - SAFCSo is Sam Allardyce really the man for the job? I'd say yes as he did a great job at Bolton with little resources, so at a club like Sunderland, the ex-Black Cat player and lifetime supporter would have a great opportunity to take us to the next level.

Big Sam has also worked with Ricky Sbragia, current Caretaker Manager and First Team Coach at the Stadium of Light, and I believe they would make a great team. Sbragia also took the position of Caretaker Manager at Bolton when Allardyce left for Newcastle.

Personally, I'd like either Big Sam to be appointed, or for Ricky Sbragia to be made take over the Manager's position permanently.

I want Big Sam or Ricky Sbragia to be appoointed as next sunderland boss. They'd work well together, as they did at Bolton when they were both there.

Big Sam has the passion for the club too as he is a Black Cat himself.

Curbishley does it for me, solid choice. Am willing to give Sam a chance but if he cant get results quickly then ditch him.

I hope they give whoever they pick enough time to turn things around. There's no point appointing someone if 10 game later you've going through the whole process again. I think Quinny will do the right thing though.

Something I don't want is a foreign manager.

I think big sam is a good choice. He didnt get enough backing at newcastle, and he would get that at sunderland. Bu one thing that has got me thinking is, i was talking to someone and his grandson played in newcastle reserves when sam was there. And he sed he only saw big sam twice in his reign, which is embarresing. We need a youth system!

One of the cons of giving the job to Big Sam is that people think he'll play boring football, the long ball.

He did that at Bolton because that style suited the players he had. He had a target man in Davies, but no speed.

I think if he came to Sunderland he'd play more of a passing system looking to get Cissé into space so he can run at defenders and make them commit.

No chance now, Big Sam has been appointed as Manager of Blackburn Rovers.
