John Mensah has passed a medical at Sunderland according to news reports throughtout the internet.

The Lyon defender announced that he underwent the test in France and says it had been successful on his personal website

He has already been backed by former Olympique Marseille captain Lorik Cana, now at Sunderland who says the Ghanaian defender is well equipped to succeed in the English game.
 
"I have played against John a number of times and he has always impressed me," said Cana.

"He played for the best team in France so that has to say something and I think he can really help us.

"He is a good player and he can really help us. He is tall, but he is also quick and strong. He has all the qualities you need to be a successful defender in the Premier League."
