Bristol Rovers v Tranmere Rovers Match Discussion

December 12 2008

For those who are unable to go to the away game at Bristol Rovers tomorrow afternoon, here is your platform for discussing all the events of the afternoon as well as the build up to it pre-match and any other interesting scorelines in League One tonight.

Bristol Rovers Match Discussion Thread

At Total Tranmere, we always like to take note of feedback from the users of the site and respond to it in the best way we can.  One thing we have picked up on more recently is that after Tranmere games there seem to be a lot of different threads that get started about the same game.

As a result of this feedback, from now on we will be providing Match Discussion Threads for every occasion when Tranmere play.

Tranmere are of course playing away at Bristol Rovers on Saturday afternoon in Coca-Cola League One so if you're not going to the game, why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on and even discuss the team news and build up to the game beforehand too?

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.  Or why not post the line-ups or anything else you can think of.

You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores in League One as well.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

Gonna be really tough. Lambert must be well marked and we must take the game to them, not sit back and defend.

We know our defence is good, so lets see if we can get some goals. 501 minutes since our last goal away from home - unacceptable

Bristol are there for the taking, and I think these type of games are the ones we need to win if we have any ambitions of reaching the top six.

There defending is pretty poor, and while we have patches on top we MUST convert the crucial chances.

Chorley and Goodison will be able to deal with Lambert though he has been lethal this season.

I think the lads have enough confidence and belief to go one better this year and take all three points.

We have to play 10 times better than we did on tuesday.

we must be tight compact and take our chances because we will be punished by lambert if we aren't.

I hope goodison and chorley play to there top standards tommorow because they will be aboslotuly crucial.

I think we can win this match if we play like wee did agaisnt leeds!

Come on the Rovers!!!!!!!!

We played ten times worse than Tuesday and it was probably the worst performance of the season after Yeovil.

The starting formation of 4-5-1 was probably not the right one to go with but several players were just not good enough today.

Apart from Chorley, the back four were terrible with Johnson the worst and Goodison not far behind him. Taylor once again had a shaky game.

In midfield, Wilson and Jenno both had good first halves but second half were poor as were Sonko and Kay whilst Savage was once again awful upfront on his own.

The fans treatment of Ronnie Moore was terrible when they should have been getting behind the team and the booing cos Savage came on was ludicrous considering he was our worst player yet again.

On to Tuesday and a win in that would be delightful - as long as we can score away from home!

Well here we go....
A shocking performance today, everyone had a bad game!
But the abosolute IDIOTS stood in front of me were a disgrace, they are not real fans. Almsot from the beginning of the match they were on Ronnie's back. Who do they think they are telling Ronnie what to do, I can understand their frustrations we were bad but you SHOULD ALWAYS get behind your team. To be honest i dont mind if those "fans" never come again.
Anyway thats my rant over just like to say well done to all the other 150 fans who didnt join in with the berrating of Ronnie. I could be here all night if i typed all the stupid things that those "fans" said.
Anyway, Thankyou & Goodnight.
Hope your all there on Tuesday singing your hearts out for the SWA!

Shocking performance from the boys.
I dont think we should give those so called "fans" at the front of the terraces in front of me, a mention because they dont deserve it. I wouldn't mind if they didnt come EVER again!
Goodison is messing up too often, lets bring Luke "Clint Hill" Waterfall back and give that lad a chance.
Hope we take a really good following on Tuesday and make loads of noise for the SWA!

Ronnie Moore did say the most stupid possible thing he could of after Bristol's second game - I'm still confused as to why he turned around and moaned at the fans rather than having a go at the 7 players who their player ran past without one attempted challenge!

Ronnie told round and told them to get behind the lads, the performance today was not Ronnie's fault so why there was a few constantly having a go I just dont get it.
If your going to come and get on the teams back and boo, and sing oldham songs, then in my opinion you are not a fan and should not be there!

Ronnie was worng in his formation even though the players were to blame.

That said though, the behaviour of our fans was ridiculous!

Wrong tactics yes,

But definately no need for the fans to tell Ronnie what to do and where to go. Half of them couldn't manage a Sunday League team so how can they say what is right if they have no experience?

To make matters they started taking their anger out on some of the Bristol Rovers players who gave a fair bit back.

Some people were blaming Danny Coyne for the first goal but he kept the score down to 2-0 thanks to some great saves could easily have been 4

In periods of the game we showed some pride in our play but a pretty woeful performance, no urgency, no determination, no grit and a totally lack of chances.

Took us 75 minutes for our first shot on target.

Says it all really.

Coyne was slow off his line for their first goal (not helped by Goodison either it has to be said but in the end Coyne was arguably Man of the Match for us.

As you say Ste he kept the scoreline down.

someone above says it's not Ronnie's fault!! He's picked the dam team and plays this pathetic 4-5-1 Ronnie isnt immune to criticism.

He really needs to get a grip and attempt to actually win a game away from home rather then playing for a 0-0 draw or a respectable defeat. Why was Barnett not even in the squad and Antwi and Edds were - how many right backs do you need!?!?!?

It's as bad as Brian Little away from home at the moment.

The team that should be playing:

Coyne

Holmes Chorley Goodison Creswell

Shuker Jennings Barnett Taylor

Savage Gornell (replaced by Curran when fit)

Come on Ronnie open your eyes and do something please or he will be managing a sunday league team!

I think you will see from my comments that he isn't totally blameless but at the same time the players are the ones out there!

Michael H - say hello next time you see me so I can put a face to the name lol!!

I didn't go to the game yesterday, unfortunately finding the money to travel to games this season is proving difficult, therefore I can't comment on the performance of individuals, I only know the score and what people have said on here. The one thing that continually bugs me is firstly people not being on the side of the team, if we're not 3-0 up at half time, people become restless which is ridiculous, we've not got a big and talented squad and fans need to realise that I think and get real with their expectations. On the other hand, I personally am getting frustrated at going into games every week playing 4-5-1, for the past 6 away games it hasn't worked as we haven't scored, do we really need to go 6 games before realising there might be a problem? If we really need to be that defensive away from home, at leasy give ourselves the chance of scoring, use wing backs like Little did away from home if necessary. Sorry to have to say this but Bas Savage is not the target man to be playing up front on his own. He's good at holding the ball up but needs support. Yesterday, it seems as though the personnel changed after an hour but the system stayed the same, is this correct? That is something I can't understand. I think sometimes, we need to be more adventurous when we fall behind otherwise, if a team knows how to deal with the 4-5-1 system after 10 minutes, we're not going to score and hence will lose more away from home than we win.

I totally agree with that Stanj and I also respect your views on not commenting on individuals having not been to the game!

At first I thought 4-5-1 was the way forward away from home especially when we had that run of wins at Huddersfield, Carlisle and Orient but since then it's clear that it isn't the way forward as you say (or not with Savage anyway).

People are going to become restless if one player runs past five of ours and sticks the ball in the net as if there was no keeper. There wasn't even one attempted challenge, it was terrible.

I couldnt get a lift to the game yeaterday so i walked instead.... commitment!!!

First off, when you lose a game 2-0 and your keeper is still man of the match, the other players must have been dreadful.....

First half, we looked enterprising down the left with Sonko and Taylor, but i cannot understand Sonko's in ability to hit one with his left peg? He did should have used it so many times.... fair enough if he hasn't got one, but i've seen him put some decent left footed balls in the box before.

However, Goodison, now seems to be losing it. he now has the attitude of, "I'm going to lunge at this whatever". He puts all his eggs in one basket with a lunge instead of tracking the man.

We need some pace in the back two, maybe Waterfall is the answer? I haven't seen enough of him to comment, but something needs to be done.

Second half it was unbelievable. I'd estimate we had 60-70% of possession yet only forced the keeper into 2 save, the first in the 75th minute! And can someone tell Mark Wilson he isnt Andrea Pirlo.... he attempted that same chip over the defence, for speedy gonzalez to run onto about 4 or 5 times. If we had Ussain Bolt uprfront then by all means carry on...... but we dont! Each time it went to the keeper or the head of a BR centre back. In the end Gornell was constantly off sde trying to reach it.

Overall thought first half the team were OK, except fr a lazy Savage, with god performances from Taylor and Sonko. The second half was not good.....everyone looked shaky with only Jennings holding his own. There is no creativity in our midfield. Any positives from he game??? Yes.... without a doubt we have the best keeper in the league, and he seems to want to see out his career here.

on the Ronnie Moore issue.... its a bit 6 of 1 half a dozen of the other really. I mean, when fans travel half the length of the country to see their team play, they should at least be rewarded with a committed performance! But on the flip side, if we had been more inclined to get behind the team, then they may have felt more passion for the badge. Ronnie was right to try an get the crowd going, but maybe he should have done it earlier, not as a reaction to their second goal, seeming as if he was blaming us! I know "Lawro and Motto" as my brother reffered to them were shoting their mouths off, but at the end of the day, theres always gunna be fans like that.

Right... time for my final thoughts..... Aaron Lescott's a @#$%&

Partly Ronnie's fault for the lack of ability to change it round at half-time, if not before. By then everybody could see it wasn't working so he should have made changes. But he didn't and whatever he said at half time had a negative effect as we were even worse.

The defence was @#$%& awful. Goodison, Taylor and Johnson between them were awful. Both goals were down to terrible errors and lack of effort.

The players though, just @#$%& useless yesterday. Defenders should be able to defend and react in due time and tackle. Ours didn't do that yesterday. Goodison was pathetically bad.

I was looking out for you or your brother Banana Army but didn't see either of you at the game!

It's a shame Goodison didn't make a tackle at all for their second goal never mind a lunge.

Michael H

I think i was standing next to you with my mate throughout the game. (to the left of you on the same row)

I noticed you said to Ronnie to ignore the idiots down below at the abuse they were giving him.

I rightly agreed with you as my mate didnt agree with the substition of Bas.

Yes... but your lucky in as much as your probably a sensible guy. He had no idea who was in the stand .... In today's climate mouthing off to fans is dangerous.

However him falling over the ball 30 seconds later was funny!

I just think that when a player gets a bit of abuse off the fans, it's funny when he gives a little bit back. Obviously what Drogba did is way over the top, but I found Lescott, and their lad Pipe, yesterday funny.

Yes ste, i think i saw you too next time just say hi lolsmiling smiley
I also thought the banter Lescott was very funny for thats what football banter is about, nothing too agressive just having a good laugh with the opposition; why i LOVE footy!
I didnt want too say to much though ste giving Ronnie support because didn't particularly fancy those guys at the front turning on me.
Anyway lets have enough of the Ronnie debate.
I believe Ronnie has done a great job with the limited resources he has had, Ronnie is a good manager.
People must realise we dont have a huge squad and endless amounts of cash.
Anyway hopefully we can beat scunny on tuesday and we will only be two games away from wembley.
Gutted i cant get there on Wednesday, can't get the time off schoolsad smiley
