After Tranmere recorded their tenth home League win of the season against Stockport County tonight at Prenton Park, Deadly Submarine takes a brief look at the highs and the lows of the evening and also chooses his Tranmere Man of the Match from the game

Tranmere   2 - 1  Stockport

Weather Report

A wet night at Prenton Park but it wasn't too cold.  Certainly not the weather for taking part in the ‘Rock the Crossbar' half-time challenge though - it would have been so easy to fall on your backside.

Crowd

5,259 made it to Prenton Park, perhaps not an unexpected amount although after the 4-1 win over Carlisle perhaps we could have expected a few more through the turnstiles.  Stockport certainly brought less to Prenton Park than we took to Edgeley Park on that cold November night earlier in the season.

Referee Watch

Neil Swarbrick (Lancashire) - A picky display by the referee, particularly in the first half where he was very whistle happy.  Arguably missed a penalty for a foul on Ryan Shotton in the first half but had a much more un-noticeable second period  - 5/10

Best Moment

Gareth Edds' goal was undoubtedly the highlight of the game and set Rovers on the way to what should perhaps have been a more comfortable win than it was in the end.

Worst Moment

The tackle by Ryan Shotton in the second half looked nasty for the Stockport player but the worst moment was the stupid goal we conceded with the last kick (for Stockport) of the game.

Tranmere Man of the Match

Edrissa Sonko - Moore was once again excellent upfront along with Shuker whilst Edds and Jennings had decent games in the centre of midfield.  For me though, although most will disagree, Sonko worked his socks off for the cause tonight and gets the award although quite honestly any of the eleven players in the Rovers side could have got it.

Connections

Ian Moore used to play for Stockport County and was of course on the scoresheet at the end of the game from the penalty spot against his former employers.

Rovers Fans

The Johnny King Stand was well heard again tonight and the Kop also found their voices, particularly after Edds' goal put Rovers in front.

Stockport County Fans

Noisy at the start of the game but didn't consistently get behind their team during the game thereafter.  Most visiting fans seemed to have left by the time their goal went in late on.

Summary

A game that in the second half at least had passion for the game, some great skills and some excellent football at times which saw Rovers gain yet another important three points to move even closer to the play-offs.

Entertainment Value

Once again the second half was better than the first, just as it was on Saturday but despite a less comfortable result this time around, the football played by Rovers in the second half was better than on Saturday by some distance. 8/10

Goodison or Jennings was man of the match for me.

Goodison wasn't brilliant yet again I didn't think but I wasn't really going to pick anyone out because on the whole we performed well.

Moore and Jennings (and Edds) were excellent but Sonko deserved it I felt.

Which Goodison were you watching?!?!?!?! He was everywhere at the back and made loads of vital interceptions.

Perhaps you got Sonko and Goodison mixed up!

Goodison once again messed around too long with the ball and could have lost possession a few times too. He no longer looks entirely comfortable on the ball either.

He did well enough and we won so no real complaints but once again certain players I feel are bizarrely getting support for being average when others get criticism when playing quite well.

Ian is out on Saturday anyway so it gives someone else a chance.

Goodison or Moore was man of the match for me.Goodison blocked so many balls and won none stop headers. The whole team was good for a change well done 3 in the bag

Thought Chorley out shone Goodison to be honest, whilst Taylor and Shotton often had to cover both of them, and each did so very well

Moore for me - and the best moment was Moore's celebration, telling Baker (the one that was always falling over) to keep his chin up!

Ah so that's what he was doing!

If I'd have known that I'd have put it in the Snippets under funniest moment.

SWA you've missed my point mate. Certain players at Tranmere get hero status and can do no wrong (in some fans eyes) so when they play average no-one thinks anything of it.

If someone unpopular plays averagely they get abuse for it.

In my opinion all players are going to play average from time to time and we have to accept that but it's the one rule for one player and one for another that annoys me most!

thought shotton done well the two CB played well thought talyor looked a bit off at times there was a lot of pace down that side tho sonko was the worst player on the pitch for me jeno and edds worked hard and edds seems to have a new lease of life since his goal on saturday barnett done ok on the left dont think he looks match fit yet tho if he gets a couple of more games he should come good shuker done ok but not as well as saturday done a lot of running tho moore for me was MOM worked hard all game looked dangerous and won more headers and held the ball up more times than savage has all season

Your doing the same by slag off Goodison. I personal did not see anyone have a bad game yesterday so why bring up one player who in fact stopped alot of balls in the air especially in the second half. It was a great team effort by the whole team

I haven't slagged off Goodison as such and as I said above there is no real reason to complain because we won and won convincingly (despite the scoreline).

SWA was suggesting that Sonko was poor (by suggesting I got the two mixed up) too but in the end we all have different opinions - which is great for the Forum!

As far I'm concerned the last two games have been well worth watching and a winning team should never be changed.

Definitely the same team again on Saturday for me (having found out that Goodison isn't suspended until Tuesday night!)

Yes same team Bas on as a sub. He looked a bit of the pace on Tuesday. But it's hard to come into a game as a sub when the team is passing the ball around so good. Yes stick with it till it stops working

Agreed there Pete.

Bas did look off the pace BUT as you say, the game was played at a great pace especially in the second half and to come on a Sub would have taken time to adjust - time he didn't have enough of I suppose!
