Latest Edition of Rovers Fanzine Now on Sale

  The latest edition of the Tranmere Rovers fanzine, "Give Us An R" is now available to purchase at all of Rovers' upcoming home and away matches.......    

Tranmere’s Good Friday away trip to Stevenage saw not only another possibly vital point for Rovers in their ongoing relegation battle but it also saw the launch of the latest edition of the popular Tranmere Rovers Fanzine “Give Us An R”.

The latest issue of the Mag went on sale for the first time at Stevenage (where supplies taken down there sold out on the day) but will be available for fans to purchase at all remaining Rovers home and away games in the coming weeks, starting with the home game against Luton Town this Monday afternoon. It will also be on sale at Ian Goodison’s Testimonial game on Monday 4^th May.

Edging ever closer to its 100^th edition and still on the subject of Ian Goodison, issue 98 of the magazine, features as its full colour front cover, the legendary Jamaican in action for Rovers a few seasons ago along with a very flashy Jamaican flag themed heart shape – perhaps summing up the feelings of most Rovers fans towards the big man!

Recent away games that are featured in the regular ‘Away Days’ articles in this issue are reviews of the trips to Cheltenham Town, Northampton Town and Cambridge United, which of course saw two defeats and then a win. As usual there are also all of the regularly featured contributions such as 'The Hairdryer Treatment' (Ryan Ferguson), 'The Jones Journal' (Trevor Jones), Total Tranmere's very own Deadly Submarine, Matthew Jones and Liam Scarth’s European Football piece.

Ryan’s piece in this edition issues a rallying cry to both players and fans as the season draws to its uncertain conclusion whilst Liam looks back at his trip (along with Ryan) to watch four Dutch football games in the space of four days. These games included visits to see Ajax, and both Eindhoven clubs (PSV and FC Eindhoven with the latter being the former stomping ground of legendary Rovers goalkeeper John Achterberg).

A friendship has developed as a result of their visit to FC Eindhoven which will see a number of their supporters attending Tranmere’s upcoming home game against Oxford United but I won’t spoil anymore of the story – you’ll have to buy the Mag to find our more!

Trevor Jones gives his usual in-depth look at recent Rovers matches that have taken place since the last edition of GUAR went on sale starting this time with a look back at the home win over Shrewsbury and working through to the home defeat against Burton. Matthew Jones assesses Tranmere’s use of the loan system in recent seasons and the potential changes which are afoot in relation to the system and he also looks ahead to Goody’s Testimonial.

Deadly Submarine, as well as his usual article looking at all things topical with Tranmere, also provides a second article in this issue which is the third instalment of his intermittent visits to watch Falkirk and their former Tranmere Rovers youth player Will Vaulks, having this time taken in their recent home game against Champions Hearts.

Other non-regular features in this edition include another contribution by Tom Raybould who looks at the sheer number of loan players Rovers have used in the past three seasons and the varying standards of those players from extremely poor to extremely good! Tranmere’s match programme complier Tony Coombes also tells the story of Tranmere Rovers Disabled Supporters Association Chairman Lee Knight who sadly and suddenly passed away a few weeks ago.  

Alongside the usual ‘Anorak Quiz’ (Guess the Grounds) and ‘That 80’s Quiz’ are a number of small and often witty pieces about things related to both Tranmere and football in general. There is also a look at Adam McGurk’s recent inclusion of three Rovers players in his ‘Dream Team’ in the Football League Paper – again you will have to buy the Mag to find out who he chose.

This issue finishes off as it begins on the front cover with a one-page article about Ian Goodison, his time at Tranmere and the upcoming Testimonial game at Prenton Park.

If you've never read GUAR before, or you used to read it but have since lapsed, why not give it a try.  The fanzine is on sale at Tranmere games both home and away with matchday sellers at Prenton Park usually situated on the corner of the Kop and Johnny King Stand and at the opposite corner of the Stadium next to the Johnny King Statue.  At away games the Mag is usually on sale at the away turnstiles.

Priced at £2.50, the fanzine is an entertaining read featuring mixed views and opinions on both Rovers related issues and football in general so why not give it a go!
