Match Thread: Wolves vs Southampton
September 29 2018
Wolves look for their second home win of the season today against Mark Hughes' Southampton to maintain their place in he top ten of the Premiership
Nuno Espírito Santo may break a Premier League record today by naming an unchanged team for the first seven games of the season against a team which suffered a 3 - 0 mauling at Liverpool last week. Ivan Cavaleiro proved he is back to match fitness by playing in the midweek game with Leicester, so he may appear on the subs bench. The 'experts' are now taking note of Wolves performances this season and are making them favourites to win this game. Let's hope they are right!!pqs: qs:

Quote:Ha ha - possibly TT but he closes tomorrow for the season & beer stocks are low!!Trurotommo
SOunds like the beer may have more promise than the game Chesh
Second half underway with no changes. Costa hurtn a clash of knees but can go on.
Afternoon, all! sounds like the usual - not putting the ball away when we should. Enjoy the beer and sun, Cheshire - though it's quite sunny here but a cold wind. Let's hope for some Traore magic second half.
Afternoon Wolverina & thanks. We hoping that a cyclonic wind which has been close by will drift past Crete before we fly home tomorrow!!
This game could easily be one of those we lose to a sloppy goal!
I don't honestly think so Wolverina, just one of those days when things aren't going right, but some of our passing has been very poor up front, Traore has just given a typical example!
Raul earns us a corner. Let's hope they don't take it short again
Gabbiadini replaces Austin
Cav replaces Jota

Why don't you do these commentaries Billericay. I do all the work and you jump in and and announce the goals before I even see them!

Wolves 2 Saints 0
Not the best performance from Wolves but a clean sheet & 3 points which lift us to 8th place - 2 above Man U!!
That's it from me - on to Palace next week eh!
Who'd have thought it? Well - we've all seen our ability, so I'm sure we all can to an extent.
Just love the fact we have such a settled line up, Nuno keeping faith with his core - and leaving up to the others to impress to grab their chance. Talking of which, what an impact Caveleiro has made. Terrifc. Not just the line up either - the style and system. Settled where everybody understands what they need to be doing - playing as a team despite the individual capability.
Nevertheless although it sounded like a fuilly deserved 3 points, Saints had their cahnces and applied pressure in the second half.
Sorry Cheshire. I just got carried away.
Despite not being at our best, we were the better side in the first half but as the second half progressed, Southampton began to get into it and Patricio had to make a couple of smart saves.
I was disappointed with Traore when he came on, didn't do a lot and messed up most things he tried. I think Nuno has got it right in not starting with him at the moment. Fair's fair though, he did really well for the first goal and there is no doubting he has pace to burn and after that first goal I thought we were back in control.
The main positives for me were that Patricio was safe when he was needed, the back three played well again, particularly Boly, Moutinho and it was good to see Cav back. I would have thought it can only be a matter of time before he is starting.
It sounds like a good effort from afar on the commentary Chesh.

Thanks Andy. I was obviously pleased to be able to watch the Man Utd game and today’s live and wanted to share my observations. The only problem is the delay after it’s travelled half way round the world!! I agree with your assessments - especially about Traore.
I feel for Jota - he had so much promise for the PL after last season, and I think he is struggling to adapt to it and to identify his correct positioning.
I have to say I too thought our defence were excellent again today & great to see the smile on Cav’s face when he’d scored!!
I was thinking about it the other day...and the only current starting eleven names I can think of that has not stepped up to the Premier league plate after seven matches is Helder Costa and especially Diogo Jota.
I think Costa shows great promise allthough I would like to see more points and more even performances from him.
Diogo on the other hand has been the only real disappointment thus far IMO.He hasn´t looked equipped to deal with Prem surroundings up til this point. My old confidence in the lad is high from last season though,so I am not saying he won´t come good for us in the end playing in the highest division..but to be frank I haven´t seen any evidence thus far into the season.
He will be forced to up his game,if not he will be replaced.Traore,Cavaleiro or some new signing down the line.Fosun won´t feel sentimental.
Jota does seem a bit below par but I feel that if he can get one good match under his belt it will do his confidence the world of good.
I am disappointed for Jota so far because many commentators thought he would set the PL alight this season after his performances in the Champ last season, but this is now overdue. I don't know whether it's due to him trying to forge a partnership with a new striker in Jimenez, or he's just not sure of his best positioning in games, but he certainly isn't yet having the impact we hoped for. I really hope he gets a lucky break soon and can score his first PL goal for us, which I think will then help him go on to big things this season.
