When you are battle no for survival, which lets be in no doubt we were in the NL, you can not take a chance on an unproven in experienced player, no matter how rave the reviews.

I would say it depends on players physical stature and mental strength - probably he was good enough but you do take some risk and would would need to know the player if they would be able to cope with the situation.

I remember Rooney when he first broke through for Everton - looked like a beest, but when spoke to press was just a kid still - but had the mental and physical strength
