Clitheroe 6 Leigh Genesis 0

Leigh Genesis' Evo-Stik League First Division North campaign ended in the same way as several games previous to it as Alan Kershaw's side suffered a resounding Bank Holiday defeat away to Clitheroe on the final day of the season.
With the hosts already out of the play-off picture and Leigh needing results to go in their favour to avoid finishing bottom of the league, the fixture saw a predictably drab opening period with neither side creating much in the Lancashire sunshine.
The game burst in to life on twenty seven minutes when they were awarded a penalty that was duly despatched by Jack Higgins before doubling their lead only three minutes later with a wonderfully-executed strike from Eddie Stanford to flight the ball over young Genesis goalkeeper Andy Farrimond.
Leigh's best chance came after thirty eight minutes when Clitheroe goalkeeper Ben Proctor did well to palm away a stinging Steve Ferrigan strike with Neil Smith unable to hit the target from the rebound and leave the game with a two goal margin at the break.
Genesis held their own for the first twenty minutes of the second half but fell further behind on sixty eight minutes when Jack Higgins headed in a rebound, with a further two goals added in just the next four minutes when first Ashley Parillon flicked the ball home on seventy minutes before Robert Turner lobbed Farrimond for his side's fifth goal after seventy two minutes.
The rout was completed with five minutes remaining with what was arguably the best goal of the six when Darren Green unleashed an unstoppable twenty five yard strike that flew in to Farrimond's top right hand corner.
The end of the season brings relegation for Genesis, their third in the past four seasons since dropping out of the Blue Square North, though they can hold some pride in remaining unbeaten against newly-crowned champions Chester, with a 1-1 draw in each game against the side set for the Premier Division.
