| Dumbarton started the
new year with a defeat at the previous happy hunting ground of
Forthbank Stadium. Paddy Flannery's equaliser to ex-Bankie Kenny
Brannigans opener was not enough as Alex Williams bundled another
Brannigan effort over the line in the last minute. Stirling
Albion 2 Dumbarton 1.
The last meeting down at The Rock
saw Sons win in some style with O'Neil, Flannery, Crilly and
Brittain netting for Dumbarton while Binos wonderkid Williams got
a consolation in Sons 4-1
victory.
Well what can you say about the
first league meeting of the season at Forthbank. 3-0 up, 4-3
down and finally winning it 5-4 courtesy of a cracking Mark Crilly

Sons met a young Stirling side in
the group stages of the Stirlingshire Cup and recorded a 2-0
victory courtesy of goals from Craig Brittain and Andy Brown.
While the young Albion side showed some neat touches they seemed
to lack any penetration up front. Their full-strength team
should pose a different challenge altogether.
Dumbarton last faced Stirling in
the league back in season 1994/95 back in the heady heights of
Division 2 this proved to be a rather successful season for Sons
(our last successful season unfortunately).
The first meeting was in August
when Martin Mooney got Sons only goal of the game in a 1-1 draw at
Forthbank.
At Boghead on Guy Fawkes night
(5/11/1994) Colin McKinnon was on target as an improving Dumabrton
side managed a 1-0 victory over their promotion rivals.
The teams actually met six times
that season as they were also draw together in the Scottish Cup
and after a 3-3 draw at Boghead (McKinnon, Ward [2]) Sons were
trounced 3-0 in the replay at Forthbank
Back to league business on the
21st of January 1995 and Dumbarton recorded a vital 2-2 draw in
Stirling with goals coming from Martin Mooney and Hugh Ward.
On the penultimate day of season
94/95 Sons lost to Morton and dropped from first to third with
Morton and Stirling holding the two promotion places.
Dumbarton fans travelled to Forthbank knowing that only a win away
at the second placed team would see them leapfrog their way to
promotion. Dumbarton fans packed Forthbank (with some being
turned away when the away end filled up) and cheered their side
from warm-up to final whistle as Hugh Ward and Charlie Gibson gave
Sons a 2-0 victory and promotion to the First Division.
