blistering second half performance by Sons put the promotion push into
top gear as results elsewhere went our way. Sons marksmen, Flannery
and Dunn, showed their goal instincts with two excellent strikes. Sons
had most of the early play but couldn't capitalise as they couldn't
turn possession into chances. With Stirling sitting back and
playing superstar (aye right) Alex Williams up front on his own Sons
were being allowed space to come forward.
Martin O'Neil and Paddy Flannery both
tested ex-Hibs keeper Chris Reid early on before the game drifted into
a dull encounter with Stirling having a couple of chances.
Indeed John Wight's diving punch ensured Sons went in level at
half-time.

It was a different matter in the
second half as Sons blitzed Stirling with a deadly performance.
Joe Robertson (marked by two Stirling players) danced down the left
wing linking up well with Crilly, Brittain and the lively Paddy
Flannery.
Flannery himself continued his
goal-scoring streak against Stirling (netting in every match the
season) with an excellent curling shot past Reid after Crilly had put
him clean through. Flannery and the rest of the Sons team ran to
celebrate with the ecstatic Dumbarton support.

Robertson was now skipping past men
with ease and linking up well with Craig Brittain. Most Sons
fans were still dreading a counter attack from the young Stirling side
but during one of there forays forward it was Sons who hit on the
break.
Craig Brittain slipped the ball to
Paddy Flannery who sprinted on with Robert Dunn. Flannery
slipped the ball past the last defender to Dunn who coolly drew the
keeper before slamming the ball into the net and wrapping up the
points.

With the injured Andy Brown off for
John Dillon Tom Carson partnered Flannery and Dunn up front and the
two hitmen certainly looked the part. Depending on how big
Bomber is after the knocks he took in this encounter we may see more
of this strikeforce.
When the referee blew time on this
encounter Sons players and fans celebrated like it was a cup
victory. Lets hope we can continue and win our Cup Final.
Even more cause to celebrate was the
news filtering through that Peterhead, Montrose and Brechin had all
lost (the title is still on!) pity Albion Rovers beat East Stirling.
All in all quite a good day (remember the gypo Bankies are managing to
stuff up their promotion campaign....)
