Sons
can't afford any slip ups in the run in with six games to go we have
our fate in our own hands. With Brechin looking to clinch the
title at home to our closest rivals Peterhead and Albion Rovers and
Montrose squaring up at Cliftonhill a win over Elgin could be a
massive move towards our aim of promotion.

| In the previous
meeting between the sides at The Rock last month Sons kept their
excellent record going with a 3-1 victory with Flannery, Lauchlan
and Crilly netting before Gilzean scored alate consolation for the
visitors. Dumbarton
3 Elgin City 1.
On their last visit to
Boroughbriggs Sons recorded an emphatic 3-0 victory courtesy of
Brittain, Robertson and Brown. Elgin
City 0 Dumbarton 3.
The first meeting of
the season at The Rock saw honours even as the sides were tied 2-2.
Hind gave Elgin the lead after only 8 minutes but only 2 minutes
later Craig Lynes evened things up. A penalty from Kelly after 50
minutes saw Elgin restore their lead before Mark Crilly finished
the scoring on 70 minutes.
Last season Sons came
out on top against Elgin with 3 wins and 1 defeat although in the
league and a victory in the Challenge Cup.
The
sides clashed for the first time since Elgins election to the
league in the Challenge Cup. Sons had never won a match in
this competition and managed to break their duck on the ninth
attempt. A Paddy Flannery hat-trick and one from Andy Brown
gave Sons a 4-2
victory at Boroughbriggs - Green was on target twice for City.
The following month Elgin got
revenge on Sons. In their first ever meeting in the league
Elgin started in fine form with a 2-0
victory courtesy of two second-half strikes from Campbell and
Quinton. Prior to the first Elgin goal Chris Gentile had a
goal chalked off for a dubious off-side.
The next time the sides met was a
very important match for all Sons fans. It was the opening
game in our new stadium The Rock. Sons fans were delighted
with the performance as Paddy Flannery (who else) scored the first
ever goal at the stadium in the 23rd minute. Over 1800
people were at this game and they witnessed further strikes from
Andy Brown and Craig Brittain to see Sons run out comfortable 3-0
winners.
In the middle of March Dumbarton
recorded an identical score-line at Boroughbriggs with goals from
Andy Brown, John Dillon and Jamie Bruce - 3-0.
The last time the sides met was
at The Rock and Sons kept up their impressive record against the
Highlanders with Andy Brown, who was on an impressive goal scoring
streak, giving Sons the lead in the 2nd minute. On the hour
Sons were awarded a penalty and with Paddy Flannery suspended
Martin O'Neil calmly slotted in Dumbartons second. Final
score Dumbarton
2 Elgin City 0.

Sons will look to field a
similar team to the one that lined up against Stirling Albion on
Saturday, although Andy Brown may be a worry.

| Elgin
certainly look a much improved side from the team that finished
bottom dogs last season. Elgin's promotion hopes now seem to
have faded but, as they showed mid-week with their draw with
Albion Rovers, they can still have a big say in who goes up with
Brechin. |
