Sons blew a great chance to pull ahead in the promotion hunt going down 2-0 to a completely unimpressive Elgin City side.  Elgin barely had any attacks prior to their opening goal in the 81st minute and wrapped it up in the final minute via Ian Gilzean.  Sons were down to 10 men at that time with skipper Kevin McCann being sent-off and had already missed a penalty in 68 minutes.

With Peterhead grabbing a late equaliser at Glebe Park Sons lead is now down to a single point over Peterhead.

Sons dominated the half with most of the possession throughout the opening 45 minutes but couldn't convert this into chances.  The large travelling Sons support (over 150) gave their full backing to

Half-Time: Elgin City 0 Dumbarton 0

The large travelling support was celebrating when Mark Crilly was impeded by an Elgin defender running through on goal to give Sons a great chance from the spot.  Flannery stepped up and placed the ball to the bottom corner but Pirie got down well to turn the ball round the post and the chance was lost.

If this wasn't bad enough Kevin McCann was then given a straight red-card for what has been termed a 'violent conduct.'

Tom Carson decided not to bring on John McKeown and Sons minus a centre-half were caught short in defence and failed to clear Elgin's first real chance as McBride headed home.

With Sons chasing the game a claim for a penalty for handball in the Elgin area was turned down and from the break up the park Elgin's Ian Gilzean killed off any hopes of a point by shooting home.  A bitter pill of the Sons support and this was made even worse as the news that Peterhead had just grabbed a late equaliser at Glebe Park.

Elgin City 2 Dumbarton 0

Dumbarton are now only one point ahead of Peterhead and two ahead of Albion Rovers with only five matches remaining this looks like it could go down to the final day of the season.  Sons must capitalise on their possession and regroup for Tuesday's match at East Stirlingshire.
