Wolves got there first 3 pionts of the new season with a comprehensive victory over rivals Walsall.
Well the first of 2 local derbies was upon us and for Walsall it was revenge time.
A packed Molineux to the tune of 27,900 stood as one to greet the lads, and to my astonishment the Liquidator remained but boy i'm glad it did.
From the off Wolves looked dangerous and got a instant free kick when Nathan Blake was felled by Ian Roper but rhe effort came to nothing .
Wolves went close again minutes later when from Cameron's Free kick Lescott headed just wide.
The Early onslaught from Wolves bared fruits when a quick throw in from Denis Irwin found Shaun Newton ,who played the ball across the box and found Colin Cameron who gleefully buried the ball into the net from 8 yards , i for one must say the defending for the first goal was laughable ,and it should have been cleared from Arinalde in the first place but never mind 1-0 Wolves.
In a dominate first half Wolves went to sleep and were nearly puninshed, when Gary Birch missed a sitter to level up,but he couldnt get enough purchase on the ball and it went well wide.
As the game neared the end of the first half Wolves nearly went 2-0 up went a up and under cross from Ivar Ingirmarsson went to Nathan Blake, who headed straight at Walker and the chance went begging.
Wolves started the 2nd half how the finished the 1st , when Ivar drove through the heart of the Saddlers midfield but was tackled has he was about to shoot in the box.
It wasnt long until the Molineux faithful celebrated another when a great through ball by Newton sent Cameron clear through he rounded Walker and slotted the ball into the empty net from a tight angle.
Paul Butler was booked after a late tackle on Pedro Matias, it looked nasty from where i was sitting and the Wolves skipper was walking a tightrope for the rest of the game.
It wasnt to stay 2-1 for long when from my view the linesman got it totally wrong and let Birch nip in and play the ball across the box to a waiting Herivelto to slot home GAME ON 2-1 WOLVES NOW.
The next 10 minutes was very nailbiting and it was heart attack time for some when Walsall really fired up from that goal, really layed seige to Wolves but for all that posession it was not to be for Walsall as Wolves went further ahead.
It was a cracking run down the wing by Subsitute Proudlock, who sent the ball into the area and once again camikaze defending allowed the ball to reach Shaun Newton, who blasted the ball in the net from close range to make it 3-0.
Well the first 3 pionts on the board and a tricky game over and done with, next up at Molineux is Stan Ternants Burnley and lets hope we can play as well as tonight for Saturday
Wolves 3 Walsall 1
