After the last gasp defeat suffered at the hands of Arsenal on Thursday night, Wolves have a chance for partial redemption in the second of two consecutive matches in London, both being billed as crucial in determining top 6 placements. Can Wolves bounce back and manage 3 points in the East End today?
In a similar style to the Arsenal match, Wolves sit on 40 points, just 2 points behind West Ham (and with a game in hand) with the perfect opportunity to leapfrog the opposition. The fact we failed at the Emirates was frustrating. The first goal, the subsequent chances (e.g the Raul miss), the mystifying referring decisions (Ben White falling like a sack of spuds despite no contact) all added up, nonetheless, it was a match where the longer it went on, the longer it looked like a worrying outcome for our boys. Despite giving everything, ultimately ball retention and passing were not at a premium, this as Arsenal rose in confidence and pressure. We must do better and today we have another chance to get back on the rails and positively, we beat the Hammers at Molineux in November, a beautiful 20-yard finish from Raul in a match where Wolves were on top. More of the same please! It’ll be difficult and they have dangerous players, including Jarrod Bowen who has taken the limelight away from Antonio this season. Having said that, West Ham have only won one of their last 5 matches, that was v Watford on 8th February, and Wolves have a very good away record this season. A tough match to call!
This is the 50th top-flight meeting between the two sides, we lead by 20 wins to West Ham's 18, with 11 draws. Since we were last promoted, we’ve played them 7 times, winning 5 and losing 2, the latter when they did the double on us last season. Hopefully that statistic will turn into W8, but will depend how we approach matters, the Arsenal match proved that endeavour alone will not see things out. Wolves need to be more composed on the ball and more confident with it and apply greater pressure with bodies getting up front in advanced and supporting positions. Silencing the majority in ‘The London Stadium’ will greatly benefit Wolves!
As for the line-up, it is difficult to see Semedo playing after limping off the pitch on Thursday, so will Jonny be given a staring berth? With that one change made, what about other places, is Neto ready for 90 minutes? Will Hwang get another opportunity. Is the form of Raul playing on the mind of Bruno? Although Raul’s form has dipped, he’d get the nod from me ….. he has scored 4 times in his 6 previous matches v West Ham. Podence did enough last time out and the others pick themselves ….. or do they? Bruno is always capable of a surprise!

Well that last gasp goal by Arsenal robbed me of three points on the prediction league but I have gone for a 2-2 result today. West Ham will have some extra energy as they haven’t played recently so hoping our boys can go the full 90, I’m sure Bruno will make the necessary changes to compensate for tiring legs. Played them off the park last time out and Declan Rice was all but invisible so more of the same please. Should be a good game between two balanced teams.

Not afraid to ring the changes, and brave selection today.
Strong bench so I imagine that should substitutions be used, as they almost certainly will, they will not be to the detriment of team strength. Starting position for Fabio so wishing him well along with Ki.

Quite shocked by that line up. In key areas, the bench looks stronger, nevertheless we did surrender possession far too much on Thursday. I don’t understand Ait-Nouri being on the bench, nor Podence either. That front line looks a bit light weight to me, I look forwarded to being corrected after 90 minutes!
Clearly Bruno thinks it’s time for a rest for Jimenez. Hopefully, when he gets back on the pitch, it’ll give him a bit of drive.
Send out a message though, nobodies place is guarenteed. Still scratching my head today though.

I must admit to being quite shocked by Bruno’s team selection for this game. Whilst I can see we have already played two games in the past seven days and changes were to be expected I’m not convinced that making so many makes sense, but then perhaps it really is a chance for the players coming in to make a name for themselves.
I really don’t think Ait-Nouri & Pod deserved to be dropped but do agree with Raul and Joao being rested. It’s almost make or break for Fabio and Trincao so let’s hope they make the most of the opportunity, and that Marcal doesn’t muck things up at the back!! I feel sure we will see Raul and Neto at some point in the game.

This is poor fare by Wolves. Can’t keep the ball, next to no attacking intent. Movement and position play in midfield and up front, well under par.
The positive is that it’s still 0-0.

A dreadful first half from Wolves featuring a powderpuff front line. Fabio, Hwang & Trincao offer very little threat between them, and Marcal and Hoevervare very poor replacements for RAN & Semedo, offering very little down the wings. Donk & Ruben have struggled to establish any control in midfield up against Rice & Soucek. A good job Jose Sa has been in form

Couldn’t agree more Chesh, how is this team capable of scoring a goal? I say that, Hwang had a gilt edged chance at the end, incredible we actually fashioned one.
At best, completely second best in this match, fortunate Ommers haven’t scored yet, not least to our main man Sa, and a bit of luck.
We just must do better second half.

Donk keeps putting his colleagues in trouble with poor short passes. Ruben gets a shot away on target but swallowed up by Fabianski. Wolves have 83% possession but nothing to show for it.

We are already two mins into 3 added minutes and still no nearer getting an equaliser. All over and another 1-0 defeat of Wolves - a thoroughly depressing last two games in London. Bruno took a huge gamble with five changes and it didn’t pay off in my view. Our front 3 were toothless for much of the game, and I can’t help but wonder whether Hwang & Trincao really do warrant all the money we look at to buy them. People criticise Semedo on Social Media, but Hoever really struggled to offer anything like Nelson does, and on the other side Marcal offered very little going forward.
It just goes to show that all the talk of a top four finish for Wolves is total rubbish

In the first half there was no threat in attack and before anyone says the service was poor our forwards couldn't hold the ball up when they had it and it more often than not came straight back again. Didn't look like scoring although Hwang's shot at the end of the half was probably more difficult than it looked at the time. I also thought Kilman didn't have the best of first halves, given what's going on maybe he had other things on his mind, but he did better in the second.

Well, what can you say about that with any positivity? I’d say Sa played well. Full stop.
I’ve never thought of us as top 4, so despite opportunities the last two matches, we have perhaps reverted to a position which I think realistically reflects our season. Always nice to dream, and believe me I do, but we are simply not consistent enough and don’t have depth in quality. Are we just ‘best of the rest’?
Having said that, Europe i.e. Europa, should not be out of reach, except todays performances suggests we are miles off. Bruno, in my opinion, got it completely wrong. A front line which being brutally honest, wasn’t and isn’t collectively good enough. If ever there was a match to demonstrate that we need to look elsewhere, then this is the one that surely cements the notion that we say cheerio to Trincao. But he wasn’t the only one today. At least with Arsenal, we gave it a go (to a certain extent) and at least we were overcome by concerted and skilful pressure, today was a day when we hardly landed at punch, and it wasn’t as if West Ham were constantly in our faces. Make no mistake, Hammers were clearly the better side today but the sad thing is it took a moment of where Saiss switched off for the goal which decided the result.
The first half was utterly dreadful. What exactly were we trying to do? Second half, you could make a case we were improved, but were one dimensional, failed to penetrate down the wings in advance positions and some of the ball retention was poor …. As was some of the movement. In general, throughout, so many moments of passing back and general lack of ideas of going forward.
I try to be level headed in support, one win doesn’t mean we’ll win the league (if you saw me after a win, you might think different !) and one (or two) defeats doesn’t mean it’s relegation, but you have to call it as it is. Today was dire, so utterly disappointing.
Anyway, we now really have to bounce back …… next week it’s Palace, oh dear, another London club!! Bruno has plenty of work to do in the next 6 days.

Really poor showing so frustrating as we had so much to play for. Bruno got it totally wrong today in my opinion, you dont make 5 changes like that in such a massive game, especially as hoever and trincao don't look up to it. I don't see what either of these players bring to the team, I know they are young players but I will be surprised if either one of the make an impression on the team. Hoever looks like he's just incapable of following the runners. Bruno should of made changes at half time because it was clear it wasn't working. So frustrating as west ham didn't even look that good. On the plus side it's nice to see Neto back.

Agree about the short goal kicks AF. If you have an outlet to pass through the team which results in attacking opportunities, then fine, but all it seemed to do today, and versus Arsenal, was to invite a great deal of pressure back on us. Invariably, from such goal kicks we struggle to get the ball out of the final third and provide the opposition with far too many opportunities to win the ball back.

Bruno must take some responsibility for our lack of any threat throughout the first half . I understand that perhaps there was a need to give some players an outing and some a rest but I think that the wholesale changes against a team like West Ham smacked of recklessness unless there are injuries we are not aware of.
Trincao was far off the pace and was easily dispossessed or made poor passes, the same goes for Ki Jana Hoever who is a poor replacement for Semedo. 4 of the next 5 matches are at home and, looking at the opposition, if we are serious contenders for Europe it will be massively disappointing if we lose any of them and although I'm sure none will be easy, a case could be made for winning all 5.
