After taking a vital three points from Burnley on Tuesday Wolves have their third game in eight days and the opportunity of claiming another three this afternoon against East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest and add pressure on their Manager Steve Cooper.
Despite it being a poor game midweek Wolves can still take pride in the fact that they kept a rare clean sheet and won a difficult game. Head coach Gary O'Neil says his team have had to make sure the squad are well rested this week in preparation for today's game, ready to shine in front of the Molineux faithful for the seond time in five days. Forest were very well beaten 5 - 0 by Fulham on Wednesday evening, with former Wolf Raul Jimnez scoring twice, a result which has reportedly put added pressure on Steve Cooper despite the job he has done for them in recent seasons.
The rivarly between the two teams was added to last season by former Wolves midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, who is likely to receive a hostile reception from the Molineux faithful this afternoon after his antics celebrating a goal in front of the Wolves fans, and trying to get Daniel Podence sent off following the alleged spitting incident at the City Ground. Forest however have bigger issues to contend with as they have a number of injuries including striker Taiwo Awoniyi, so it is likely Chris Wood - who enjoys scoring against Wolves - will start for them, as may former Wolves favourite Willy Boly, who - unlike Gibbs- White is likely to receive a warm welcome!!
Pedro Neto and Rayan Ait-Nouri are unfit to make today's squad, but Jose Sa is back to full fitness, so it will be interesting to see who is selceted to start in goal after Dan Bentley's spectacular double save on Tuesday. Other big news this week is that Jonny will not train with the first team until the end of the January window following a training ground incident for which he has apologised. So it may well be an unchanged starting eleven for Wolves today unless John-Ricard Belleguard is restored to midfield in place of Pablo Serabia.
Today's game kick off at 3pm and will be refereed by the preumably newby Sam Barrott, with Chris Kavanagh on VAR Duty. The game will not be screened live, but highlights can be seen on BBC MotD this evening.

I feel that this could be a bit of a banana skin for us with Forest keen to make up for the thrashing at Fulham. Playing for their manager, who seems to have their support will perhaps give them a greater incentive as he seems to be close to losing his position. However, if things go well, hopefully, we could be on for a few goals and another three points. Cmon lads, put them to the sword.

Very even so far with Wolves having more possession but not making it into the final third so far. Neco Williams puts a high cross over which is met and headed in by Toffolo. Jose wasn’t sure whethervto come for it or not so he left it.

Pablo plays a goid ball into the area for Cunha but Boly gets to it first forva corner which is cleared. Two very good tackles to regain possession by Joao G

Lotsnof good possession and bulid up play by Wolves but still struggling to create inside the opposition box. Hwang goes for a headed goal rather than head it back across the area as he should have.

Greatbplay involving Matheus Cunha, interplaying with Pablo, he gets the perfect ball back to put it tight into the corner of the net. Cunha’s first goal at Molineux!

Nelson gets a shitbaway from outside the arwacafter skilful play by Pablo, but too high. Kouyate was booked for dissent straight after our goal. Nelson gets another corner which Pablo eventually swings in but just too long.

Six added minutes as Kouyate leaves the pitch following a head injury & possibly not able to continue. Dawson & Toti get in each others way on the end of a Pablo free kick. Poor back pass from Max lets Kouyate in but Jose stops his shot. A lucky break!!

Half time whistle goes and after a shock first goal conceded Wolves have rallied well and scored an excellent equaliser. Forest are concentrating on defending in numbers and relying on breaking when they can, whilst Wolves have had the majority of possession but struggled at times to get into the final third meaningfully. Lemina and Gomes are becoming a real well organised force in midfield whislt once again Cunha is everywhere clearing up and cresting attacks.

Here we go again with no changes. Cunha briefly down hurt but OK. Some strong tackles going in from Forest - free kick put in by Pablo but Dawson can’t connect. A good period of play by Forest leads to a corner, after which Elanga hits the bar from an offside position

By all accounts Steve Cooper shown a yellowvcard for complaining. Hwang hasn’t really been grestly involved in this game so far. Forest dominating possession so far in 2nd half

1-1 FT. Wolves in the ascendancy at the end but just couldn’t break them down. Long attempt by Semedo, blasted howler from Traore and generally comfortable.

Wolves free kick won by JRB 20 yds from the area, Joao takes it, met by Toti but Wood goes down so easily for a free kick. Wolves still chasing the winning goal, but final whistle goes for a draw, which Forest will be happeier with than Wolves, but it does extend Wolves run to six unbeaten at home and moves us up to 12th again, one place above Bournemouth who have won 3-0 at Man Utd!!
A tight affair with Forest keen to defend and hoping to score in the break which made Wolves options to attack quite diificult. Great teamwork for Woles goal well taken by the excellent Cunha.

We got lucky and Forest could easily have walked away with three points. West Ham next and l just hope we stop faffing about in and around our own penalty area or we will eventually regret it. The neat passing and interplay that is on show on the training ground seems to desert us when involved in an actual match and we too quickly revert to a sideways and backwards capitulation which the opposition are only too happy to exploit. Really need to do better or our current enjoyment of being midtable safe could soon change.

The second of my ‘two games in a week’ in the midlands and I am sorry to report that I have seen 3 halves of really poor football.
The second half yesterday was like a re-run of Tuesday night, except we didn’t score, Forest probably should have, I was in the North Bank (lower SB on Tuesday) and it wasn’t as cold. Nowhere near as cold to be honest.
The last 25 minutes of the first half gave me cause for optimism after a a very slow start and,IMO, Forest taking an undeserved lead. Our goal was a lovely bit of inter play, Sarabia to Cuhna and a nice finish
Sadly my optimism was completely misplaced.We huffed and puffed, mainly sideways and backwards, Bueno and Semedo both guilty of failing to take on their man …. To me getting down the wing was the most likely way to undo a firm and resolute Forest who were well and truly put to the sword midweek.
Our back three were disjointed (I haven’t seen the highlights yet) and gave the ball away, but there again a few were guilty of that as well.
In the end, a couple of Forest chances, a missed header and hitting the bar when a winner seemed more likely. I think a defeat would have been very harsh, but my word, we need to up it ….. a bit of excitement and entertainment please …. It’s nearly Christmas after all!!
So 4 points from two home matches, that’s not a bad return, reasonably happy with that to be honest despite the turgidity! Oh, and Morgan Gob Sh!!te did practically nothing. Good to see Big Willy back at Molineux btw.
I fear the cockernee trio of Wet Spam, Chelsea and Brentford will give us more to think about before the match v Everton closes the year. There again we might we could easily rise to the occasion.
