Match Thread: Crystal Palace v Wolves 2pm KO 22.02.2026

Off the back of a very good midweek result versus a haphazard Arsenal, there is more capital opposition for Wolves this afternoon at Selhurst Park. Crystal Palace are still in a really poor run of form, which has led to some very strange comments from Oliver Glasner, stating he isn’t good enough in a number of key managerial roles, this after announcing he intends to leave at the end of the season. In 2026, The Eagles have only won once, for their supporters, at least it was against Brighton, could this be an opportunity for Wolves to press a side sufficiently for our first away league win of the season, although they do have issues in London? In fact Wolves are the only side in the top five English divisions still without an away victory, it would be lovely if Wolves could avoid another season, like 03/04, where away fixtures drew an absolute blank.

Back to last Wednesday night, Wolves showed enough spirit and collective effort to please the fans, particularly after a nightmare start, then followed up with two terrific Old Gold goals.. Rob Edwards made some critical comments about some early fan reaction, though nobody could fault the supporter involvement and support as they reacted to a great Wolves comeback ….. despite everything thrown at them / us this season, they stuck with the side ….. in contrast to some elements of Arsenal fans, I watched the reactions on AFTV after the match, they were in total meltdown leaving me to lament ‘if only we had their problems’!

Returning to today, despite Palace’s poor form, the elephant in the room is the failure of Wolves to compete with the South London side. Palace have won the last five, the last ten have resulted in W1 D1 L8 for Wanderers, that is incredibly poor. On top of that, recent signing Jorgen Strand Larsen managed to score two goals in his first Eagles match last weekend, beating his singular goal for Wolves prior to that. Palace went on to lose that match against Burnley however!

Will Edwards make many changes to the Wolves side? Maybe it’s time to keep it settled after a good showing versus the league leaders. Angel is okay to play after suffering a back spasm, and apparently Toti could be involved again. I wonder if Tom Edozie, likely to be on the bench again, will get another second half run out? I loved the way he smashed that ball towards goal, and that it was awarded to him after talk of an own goal.

I find I’m looking forward to this game, off the back of the Arsenal performance, however there is massive trepidation that hope will be dashed as it has so many times this season. Who knows. Only two points required now to avoid the title of worst premier league side ever, but that is such a low bar of expectation. Performances, competitiveness and effort is the minimum we can expect here on in.

The match is being covered by Sky Sports with a 2pm kick off this afternoon. Enjoy the match, let’s hope for the performance we desire and see what happens, we are 7/2 for the win, which seems low to me! I’ll be tuning in as usual, maybe down the pub.

Please leave your thoughts and comments below ......... and,

UTW!!

Teams are out:

Wolves starting XI: Jose Sa, Ladislav Krejci, Yerson Mosquera, Santiago Bueno, Jackson Tchatchoua, Hugo Bueno, Andre, Tolu Arokodare, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Mateus Mane, Adam Armstrong.

Subs: Matt Doherty, David Moller Wolfe, Joao Gomes, Pedro Lima, Rodrigo Gomes, Toti, Angel Gomes, Tom Edozie, Sam Johnstone.

Pleased to see Tolu and Armstrong given another go. Hope Tolu can just keep the ball better, hold it up. Armstrong worked extremely hard v Arsenal. Tchatchoua gets in again, very lucky, he was dire v Arsenal.

0-0 HT. Armstrong and Andre have played well. Bellegarde had a couple of good chances. But Tolu? Oh dear; two feeble attempts that any Wolves striker of the last decade would have put away, and then, after Mane earned us a penalty, a terrible weak pen straight at goalie

Great pass to the Goalkeeper from Tolu for the penalty, Absolutely useless, no wonder we dont score goals.
Expect a different 2nd half from palace we have let them off the hook, we just got no killer instinct in this team.

After Krecji got red it was all one way traffic. The miracle is the Palace goal took so long 1-0 final.

A total gift of 3 points for palace.
Worst palace side ive seen for a long time, they were there for the taking today and we somehow shot ourselves in the foot and gift wrapped the points to them.
God knows what krecji was doing for the sending off the clown and dont get me started with Tolus pathetic penalty.
Todays game just sums our season up Really just not good enough.

I really don't know about Tolu. The goals he scored earlier in the season he took well but apart from that I've seen nothing to get excited about. That penalty today was beyond pathetic and when we made the change after Krejci's red card I would have left Armstrong on and taken Tolu off. Talking of Armstrong, he played better today but up until now, he hasn't exactly grabbed me by the nuts. I suspect the Championship will be more his level, which applies to most of this lot.

As far as the red card for Krejci goes, it was a second yellow for kicking the ball away but I'm not even sure it went out and I'm fairly sure Krejci didn't think it did either. On the other hand surely Wharton should have gone for the foul on Mane for our penalty, denying a goal scoring opportunity.

What a total p!ss off of a match. Another poor one for the neutral where we were easily the better side in the first half, their main chance coming from the poor back pass from Mosquera. Once again, we were short of ideas in the final 20 yards but felt Armstrong, Andre and Bellegarde were trying very hard to drive us forward. Some of Armstrongs touches and passes were excellent.

Then the penalty, and yes why no red card? Don’t get me started on Tolu’s penalty non-effort. Totally ffing pathetic, I was apoplectic with rage. A gilt edged chance and he taps it like a ffing moron. We cannot afford a player who cannot be relied upon.

Second half, I couldn’t see Palace scoring, i thought they were complete rubbish and then in a space of a nod and wink, a yellow followed by another yellow for Krecji and he’s off. I’ve only seen the incident once but my instinct at the time was exactly the same as Andy P’s …… dreadful decision.

Down to 10, it was always going to be a struggle and I thought we defended well enough for the draw to be disappointed so close to the end. Mind you, Tolu scores and we don’t lose. Simple.

In another match we should not have lost, we lost. It’s so frustrating but what on earth can we do?

At home versus the Villa on Friday. Sheesh.
