Match Thread: Burnley v Wolves 4pm KO 24.05.2026

Here we are, the last match of the 2025/26 season, an awful, poor and chiefly unenjoyable premier league season for all Wolves fans. Apathy seems to reign at Molineux, we’ve known about the inevitable for so long, the end was nigh as early as last autumn, however I am not sure such indifference will continue if we start poorly in August and September. Many things need to change, players, effort, passion, teamwork, and importantly attitude, any notion things will be easy in the championship need to be extinguished fast. So many ex-premier league sides have been caught up in championship relegation scraps and into league one – we’ve been there before!

Looking forward to next season, Andre signed a new four year contract this week, a genuine show of commitment and belief in the Fosun plan, or a means to sell him at a high price in the January 2027 sales? Either way, it is good to see him stay, with discussions about his contract pointing towards Edwards staying too. The talk of the town is if Raul Jimenez will make a Molineux return after his emotional ‘homecoming’ last week and with his Fulham contract ending, could this become reality? There are always pros and cons of any return, he’s 35 too, however he would surely have been better than what we have seen this season! This Wolves fan gives a resounding ‘si senor’ for a Raul 26/27 reappearance! With Roman Saiss at Molineux last week, some also believe his return to the side is needed too!

Onto the game this afternoon, an opportunity for Wolves to not finish bottom, to win their first away match and earn an extra £2.7M. On top of that, Burnley haven’t won at home since October! We used to beat The Clarets for fun but omens aren’t great for the Old Gold, Wolves with just one premier league win from ten at Turf Moor, they haven’t won’t there in the last five and have only ever won just one final premier league season fixture. Added to that our historic miserable three league wins (an all Wolves worst ever), we’ve failed to score in 19 games and have occupied bottom spot since 31st August! Abject misery, yet there’ll still be many of us praying and hoping for a performance in this ‘battle of the basement’ and reverse the result at Molineux.

For Edwards, with players already known to be leaving, Joao G and Krejci to name two, who will he select for this clash today? Andre, I’m certain is a shoe in, though Johnstone is ‘missing’ and Doherty will be absent, alas. Mane played better all-round last week, not just his goal, so that’s another starting position, with Sa in goal, for his last hurrah. Upfront, who knows, both Arokodare and Armstrong were both very disappointing last week, lacking finesse and composure went it counted. Whoever Rob picks, all the best to them today!

We are on Sky again on this sunny late May day, 4pm kick off, some minor channel no doubt whilst other premier league sides get the lion share of attention …. Just like every weekend really, ay it?! Enjoy the match, however you choose to follow the mighty Wanderers. Don’t forget to leave your comments in the thread below!

Finally, as many already know, this is my final pre-match report and I’m departing as moderator too – there’s still time should any like to take the reins, just let me know! I’m realistic enough to know that this may well be the end of the Molineux Way and that brings about quite a degree of personal sadness. Contributing for 21 years, over 7 as a ‘mod’ is a massive chunk of life and I’ve so enjoyed it. Over all those years, this site has provided the full range of emotions fundamentally linked to being a football supporter, joy and frustration as I’ve sat reading and writing about Wolves and our ever-emerging fortunes, whether good times or hideous dilemmas.

A genuine thanks to everybody, past and present, who have I’ve encountered since 2005, and made The Molineux Way so special, I’ve truly loved the ride!!

From a small corner of Devon, very best wishes and  ……… UP THE WOLVES!!

Well guys, a two game undefeated run, 1-1 at Mighty Burnley and 45 minutes off the bottom of the table. Almost counts as a triumph. I too was heartened by the Andre news and perhaps one or two old-timers returning for one last hurrah. We’ll see.

Anyway, it’s been fun, mostly and thanks to all for keeping this special little corner of Wolves alive for so long (often when it barely had a pulse). And thanks Ivy for the last seven tears, and after the loss of Chesire.

Bye! UTW

So we finish Rock Bottom after failing to win away all season and let's face it that's where this god damn awful squad of players deserve to finish.
Big summer ahead in the transfer market if we are to compete next season.

Thank God the season is over. Got quite excited when we got up to 19th but finished where we deserved to be. Needed Sa to pull us out of the khazi a few times and the only really thing of note is that the young lad Abbey showed one or two nice touches for the short time he was on. If this is the end of the site as seems likely it's been a pleasure corresponding with you all and a special thanks to Ivy for keeping it going for the last few years. Take care everyone and all the best to you all.

The season is over. Phew.
Rightfully we finish last, the poorest side in the league confirmed, the only premier league team not to win away twice. Another lovely record!
Burnley and West Ham join us in the drop, shame about Nuno.
The championship it is, massive reset required!

No idea what's going on with the prediction league, the fixture today has the wrong month on it but given the fact I predicted 1-1 it's irrelevant anyway and I have won it - certainly ended on a damp squid didn't it.

I have been on here since 2007 which doesn't seem like yesterday, but it doesn't seem like 19 years either. If the average life expectancy is 80 years, it means I will have posted on this place for 25% of that allocated time which is one hell of an innings. I was going to create a fairly lengthy post on all the negatives of modern football, but as Chicago said, everything is pointless ultimately in a finite life and if people are still enjoying it, no point p*ssing on their parade. We're all essentially passing our time as best we can until the inevitable happens and the grim reaper arrives in a fairly short life.

Apart from SPRH and Steway, I've never had any real issues with anyone, most of it is just banter. For a final time - goodbye and remember Rome wasn't built in a day or as my club badge says

Roma uno die non aedificata est (Sm100)(Sm122)(Sm150)
