Wolves Vs Gillingham

A fantastic performance all around as Dave Jones' men put up a show to be proud of. This is the Wolves that people don't mind paying to watch!

The day was bad enough for Gillingham even before kick off as regualar keeper Brown was injured during the teams warm up, meaning former Wolves keeper Vince Bartram started between the posts. And the veteran keeper started off well, tipping Paul Ince's half volley over the bar.

But then, all change! Nathan Blake scored his first goal since returning from injury to give Wolves the lead. Wolves had a Kenny Miller goal disallowed a few seconds later, with the Scot judged to have been offside. But, five minutes later, the crowd were up singing Tom Hark again as Colin Cameron scored after a cracking bit of control to double the lead. The Scot was then involved in a head to head clash with Gillingham's Saunders, but he was back on the pitch after a 4 minute break.

After four or so mintues of Gillingham pressurising, Paul Ince hit the post after beating Bartram from just outside the area. Only a few minutes after this, Wolves' third goal came through Mark Kennedy following a cross in from Sean Newton. It was Kenny Miller's turn next, slicing past three away defenders to score his 20th goal of the season and Wolves' 4th of the day. The home and away fans were in for more yet though as Mark Kennedy scored his second goal of the day just before half time, leaving the visitors trailing 5-0 at the half way mark.

Wolves fans started dreaming of 10 I imagine after the restart. Only three minutes had passed before Kenny Miller was putting the ball in the net for number 6. This prompted the ENTIRE stadium (yes, even the Gills supporters) to go into a Mexican Wave. Don't know whether anybody else realised this but Wolves last Mexican Wave was at home towards the end of last season - against Gillingham.

The game became slow then, but Wolves seemed to have almost constant possesion. The fans were too busy cheering to watch the game though. The next moment of brilliance came from a Denis Irwin free kick which easily beat Bartram, but was denied by the crossbar. The game stayed at this pace until the final wistle was blown. An incredible performance - WELL DONE LADS.
