FOLLOWING the painful defeat on
Tuesday night it was important we did not cause a ‘knee jerk’
reaction in the way in which we reflect on a night of Football which
could ultimately condemn Wolves to Nationwide Football next season.
The determination
which has seen Wolves take valuable points off the likes of Manchester
United and Liverpool in recent weeks was not evident on Tuesday and it
will be hard for the Fans to re-discover the same hope of achieving the
impossible they had prior to the Leeds game.
Winning
breeds confidence whilst being hammered does the opposite, with extreme
effect. Wolves are now stuck at the bottom of the Premier League and
staring Division One in the face, however another glimpse of the
performance level which saw Wolves take points off some of Footballs elite
could shoot Wolves north and towards the direction of safety.
It’s
hard to take positives from such a devastating set-back but Vio Ganea is
showing his true colours and Carl Cort can only get better, add to that
the return of Paul Ince and the influential Henri Camara and things start
to look slightly brighter than they did when the full-time whistle blew at
Elland Road several days ago.
The
most optimistic Wolves Fan would not have believed that Wolves could have
finished the season with just two defeats and clinched promotion to the
Premiership after the defeat to Bradford City towards the end of December
2002, so why should the most pessimistic Wolves fan not believe that
Wolves can perform the impossible and clinch survival in the Premier
League in 2004?
It’s
how we bounce back from this latest set-back which really matters now, but
with our home record as good as it is, nothing says we can’t beat Fulham.
We
overturned the curse of the South Dressing Room at the Millennium Stadium
in May, we overturned the odds the bookies had set against Manchester
United in January, so what is stopping us bringing a halt to the curse
which claims that every side bottom of the Premiership on Christmas Day
goes down?
