WOLVES won their first game in
five at Molineux on Saturday after goals from Paul Ince and Carl Cort
gave Wolves a very valuable three points.
If Wolves are to stay up
this season, they would have to defy the odds and break a trend. Every
club who has been bottom of the Premiership on Christmas Day has been
relegated - Wolves were bottom on Christmas Day.
However, yesterday Wolves
bucked the trend twice. Firstly, Referee Howard Webb had previously been
in charged of five Premiership Game. Each of the five games finished
0-0. Secondly, Wolves had not beaten a team from London in the league or
cup all season.
Wolves started the brighter
and tore into Fulham. Kenny Miller, who started in attack flicked the
ball on to Alex Rae after just ten minutes, but his shot was well saved
by Van Der Sar.
However, after 20 minutes
Wolves did score. A long ball played by Irwin's replacement Mark Clyde
was nodded down by Alex Rae and Paul Ince timed his volley to perfection
and smashed the ball past the Dutch 'Keeper.
Wolves were not finished
though as Camara, Butler and finally Miller all came very close before
the break.
The second half started like
the first with Wolves on the attack and it took just six minutes for
Wolves to double their lead. Henri Camara charged down Fulham full back
Pearce and the ball fell kindly to Carl Cort who knocked the ball home
and wheeled off in celebration of his first ever goal for Wolves.
Ince then smashed a volley
against the bar before Steed Malbranque pulled one back for the visitors
however Wolves were able to hold on and collect a valuable three points.
