WOLVERHAMPTON Wanderers
midfielder Silas has hailed Wolves fans as 'the best in the world' just
weeks after Paul Ince gave the 'Barmy Army' the same compliment.
Much is made of the Wolves
support, but Paul Ince recently declared the gold and black 'Barmy Army'
as the best fans in the World and now Portuguese International Silas has
handed the fans the same compliment.
Silas was not selected for
Portugal's friendly against England in mid-week but he believes that if
the Portuguese National Team had Fans as passionate as those at Wolves
then they would win Euro 2004.
"I've played in Spain
and Portugal but nowhere is the support as passionate as it is here, If
Portugal had this level of support I think they would win Euro 2004.
I've never seen anything like the passion they show here." Said
Silas.
"Wolves fans sing all the
time, but in Portugal the same results would have seen the supporters
whistling and booing. Staying in the Premiership is going to be
difficult, but not impossible and the supporters can make all the
difference - they make us realise we can do it."
Silas has started just two
Premiership games for Wolves this season, but he says he owes the Wolves
Fans who have stuck by him.
"I want to repay the
supporters by producing good performances," he said.
"It makes me work harder to
know they are behind me. They enjoy the game and they want to support me
- they deserve us to play well because they are the best in the
world."
Silas added "In Portugal the
game is played at a slower tempo and there is a lot more possession
before a team loses the ball. So here you require a lot more
concentration because the game is faster and there is less time on the
ball."
