THE WEEKEND just passed was a weekend
which could condemn Wolves to relegation - Leicester and Portsmouth both won
points whilst Leeds face Manchester City at home tonight.
As the 90 minute mark passed at Liverpool
on Saturday, things looked rosy. Wolves had put in a decent shift, were winning
a point and were defying the odds at Anfield.
Everton, Liverpool's great rivals were
winning at the Walkers Stadium whilst Portsmouth were planning to play hosts to
Southampton - a team Pompey have failed to beat thus far on two occasions this
season. Could things get any better?
Sadly things took a turn for the worst. As
the clock ticked to the 93rd minute, Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia rose and
headed the ball past Paul Jones in the Wolves goal. Wolves had lost this match
in the final few seconds and then, at almost exactly the same time, Bent scored
an equaliser for Leicester City at the Walkers Stadium.
In the blink of an eye, Wolves season may
have been decided. Wolves had undeservedly lost the game at Anfield whilst
Leicester had won a point against a team who had been playing against ten men
for part of the first and all of the second half.
Then, as everyone was recovering from
their traditional Sunday Roast, Portsmouth managed to beat Southampton 1-0 at
Fratton Park. Oh, and Kevin Phillips had hit the inside of the post in the very
last minute.
The weekend, which was looking so bright
and positive suddenly turned into a nightmare. Sadly, it could get worse.
Should today, Monday, continue in the same
vein as the Weekend, then expect Leeds United to win at Home to Manchester City
tonight and leave Wolves bottom of the Premiership.
Wolves are still yet to win away this
season. It was 20 years since our last top-flight win, and boy do we need one
now.
The only problem is, it's Chelsea on
Saturday!
