Saturday see’s the final game of the Premiership Season against Spurs, however all the hype surrounding this game is about the Fans and players in Old Gold, rather than the game itself.
Wolves were relegated to the Football League two week’s ago, but with this relegation has come an air of optimism and excitement.
Gone are the tears of relegation and in place are a set of supporters and players who can hold their heads up high knowing they gave it their very best shot – and no more can be asked.
Wolves were not good enough. It’s as simple as that, and it is to Wolves testament that the relegation battle went to the final three games of the Premiership Season.
Written off before a ball had been kicked, Wolves have fought, battled and gave their all in a season which has seen high’s and lows of dramatic slopes.
From losing 4-0 at home to our rivals Aston Villa, to beating Manchester United whilst they rode high in the league with the title in their sights. From losing 4-1 away at Leeds United, to cause the greatest comeback of Premiership history to beat Leicester City after going in at the break 3-0 down.
Wolves had not scored four goals all season, but in 45 minutes of excitement, goals from Henri Camara, Alex Rae and a double from Colin Cameron won wolves the points in the most dramatic of fashions.
It’s been a rollercoaster and one we don’t really want to get off. However next season looks bright. Very bright.
Wolves Fans are turning Saturday’s game with Spurs to “Senegal Day” in a bid to ensure their prize asset – Henri Camara – is wearing the Old Gold of Wolverhampton Wanderers next season.
Camara and his new strike partner, Carl Cort have torn Premiership defenders inside out in the last eight weeks and the two will run absolute riot in the Coca Cola first division next season.
Camara may be the new son of Molineux and Senegal Flags will be seen at Molineux in their hundreds, but two very special players will be signing out of Molineux once the final whistle has blown.
Alex Rae, a fans favourite is off to join his boyhood hero’s Rangers in the Summer. It’s a move he has dreamt of all his life and it’s a move he will not be begrudged.
Rae has typified Wolves “in yer face” style football since he arrived at the club three years ago and he will leave the Molineux a hero in the eyes of all gold and black.
Secondly and by no means least, Denis Irwin is playing his last game of football before hanging up his boots.
It’s rare to see opposition fans applauding Wolves players, but you can be sure that Spurs fans will be applauding a man who has been there, done it and worn the T-shirt when he finally completes his final 90 minutes on Saturday.
Denis Irwin has been superb. He has won in his times at Manchester United, Oldham, Leeds and now Wolves everything he could possibly win and he can hold his head up high knowing his career was one of which every player in the world will begrudge.
The Wolves fans will also be saluting the rest of the Hero’s. From Paul Jones in goal, to Vio Ganea in attack. They have all played their part, they have all given their all and we thank them all for their efforts.
A minutes silence will be held before the match for Dennis Wilshaw who sadly passed away earlier this week.
