ISAAC Okoronkwo has admitted that he WAS
offered a new contract for Wolves and that the reason he is currently out of
contract is his fault. Okoronkwo has also admitted to waiting to hear news on a
proposed trial with Blackburn Rovers.
The reason Okoronkwo was released from
Wolves always came as a mystery.
Dave Jones claimed he didn't think
Okoronkwo was good enough, however the Nigerian International has admitted that
he was offered a contract at Molineux.
Okoronkwo claims that he refused the Wolves
contract because the offer wasn't good enough and he was holding out for a
Premiership Club.
"It was partly my fault my time there
[Wolves] came to an end. I knew my contract at the club was running out at the end of the season, yet I was holding out for a Premiership club to come in for me."
Said Okoronkwo.
Dave Jones and the board received huge
criticism for not offering Okoronkwo a contract. Incredibly however, Okoronkwo
claims he was offered a contract and he rejected it.
"Wolves were going down and offered me a deal, yet I left things too late, hoping a top flight club would pick me up."
"However, I also felt the club could have gone about things a bit better. I felt I performed well for the club and did enough to warrant a better deal than they did actually offer. I definitely would have signed if the deal was right. I loved the club and the fans. However, what's meant to be is meant to be. I made mistakes, they made mistakes and you live by your decisions."
Okoronkwo says that he is now awaiting news
of a proposed trial with Premiership club Blackburn Rovers.
"I'm delighted my manager has been in touch with Blackburn Rovers. Talks are still going on, and I'll know next week whether they want me to come up for a trial."
he said.
