Wolves go out but Hod is still a happy man.

WOLVES boss Glenn Hoddle was pleased with his sides performance in the City Of Discovery cup today, despite losing the game on penalties to Sheffield Wednesday.

Wolves needed to beat Wednesday to make the final of the competition - which also includes Dundee and Dundee United - on penalties after a 0-0 draw at the Tannadice Stadium.

However it should have been comfortable for Wolves with a lack of finishing being the only stumbling block for Hoddle's men.

Both Miller and Ricketts came close to opening the scoring and Miller blasted a penalty into the box and Carl Cort missed a humiliating open goal.

"If it had been a boxing match it would have been over in the first round." Hoddle told the clubs official website.

  "We missed a penalty early on and both Carl Cort and Rohan Ricketts missed from a few yards. If those had gone in we would have won the game convincingly.

  "But I was pleased with the balance of our game and on another day the ball might have gone in for us. Penalty shoot-outs are a lottery. We missed the first one and that turned out to be the only one that was missed"

The boss also added "I'm not too concerned at the moment because the lads aren't 100 percent fit and they haven't done that much finishing work.

  "I tend to like to increase our finishing and crossing as we progress because at this stage the last thing you want to do is pick up a thigh strain or something like that. The pleasing thing is that we are creating chances but, at the moment, we're just not clinical enough."

Wolves will now play Dundee in a play-off for third and fourth place. However Wolves will be forced to play some of the youngsters as Ince, Miller and Naylor are all carrying slight knocks.
