| You have to go back 6 seasons the last
time City had a run as bad as the current four consecutive losses. The likes
of Craig Middleton, Stevey White-White-White and Bluebirds legend Carl Dale
were owners of the blue jersey in those days. The disaster season of 1997/1998, where City broke the record for the number of draws in a season, saw City lose 5 consecutive league games against Scarborough, Colchester United, Peterborough United, Macclesfield Town and Hartlepool United. The rot was ended with a draw, the 23rd of the season, against Darlington on the final day of the season confirming Cardiff City's finishing position as 21st in the Third Division; the 89th best club in the country! It was not that long ago, but times were very different then. The crowd that watched City break the draw record was just 2,610. Taking into the account the travelling fans from Darlington, the number of home supporters at Ninian Park was probably less than the number that travelled 150-miles to watch City lose at Watford. The players that year were not local celebrities, and certainly none of them were on the wages that majority of the current squad currently enjoy. There also wasn't a chairman with his face all over the local media informing supporters they can 'rot in hell' if they don't want City to consolidate as a First Division club. Expectation is now far higher, and the recent run is not acceptable. I'm not a strong believer of the hype, and I don't believe most of the rubbish from the press, but changes need to be made, and things must improve. |
