Reserves Smash Oxford for Six

The Cardiff City reserve side were in action on Wednesday, with an emphatic 6-1 victory over Oxford United reserves at Ninian Park. Michael Parkins netted a hat-trick from the hosts, who came from behind, with first-team striker Gavin Gordon amongst the other scorers.

The Bluebird reserve side came from behind to pull of a resounding win over Oxford United at Ninian Park.

In front of the standard 100 or so who turn up to watch City's second-string, Oxford took the lead on 10 minutes, however City came back in the first-half with a spell of domination which resulted in three goals towards the end of the half. Michael Parkins netted twice, and Michael Hayward was also on the scoresheet with all three of Cardiff's first-half goals coming in the last fifteen minutes.

The game was put beyond doubt when James Collins scored with a header on 55 minutes, and then Michael Parkins completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot. As the game reached it's close, Gavin Gordon netted the sixth and final goal to keep himself in contention for a return to the first-team squad.

The result proves how inconsistent reserve results can be, with City losing 1-0 to United earlier in the campaign. It's been a very mixed season for the reserves so far, but after two consecutive wins that produced 10 Bluebird goals, it would seem the team run by Paul Wilkinson is starting to pick up some form. Wilkinson has won 4 of the 8 games he has been in charge of for the reserve side.
