Cardiff City owner Sam Hammam has once again caused controversy by claiming he doesn't think the Bluebirds are capable of mounting a play-off challenge this season. The Lebanese supremo went on to say that he doesn't think the players he pays are good enough to make the extra leap from mid-table.

believe the Bluebirds are good enough to get promoted. The controversial Lebanese businessman previously stated that City's first season in the First Division was "over and wasted" following a fifth consecutive defeat at Vicarage Road, but despite two wins on the trot Hammam still thinks his latest project will have to settle for a mid-table finish. ”I haven’t spoken to all the players at the club – but the general drift I get is that they are not happy about what I’ve been saying. said Hammam "My view is that I don’t thing we are now able to challenge for promotion. "The players don’t agree with that. They think they can climb out of mid-table and go for promotion. "That’s fine. I back them all the way. "They think they can do something but I don’t think they can. I don’t believe what the players believe. "If they prove me wrong great – but I doubt they will. We will now have to go on an incredible run to finish in the play-offs." This is probably some ridiculous method of physiology from Hammam, but I doubt it will work as a morale booster to the team when they hear the bloke who pays their wages doesn't believe they're good enough. "I thought we had one of the best squads in this league but clearly it’s not good enough." added Hammam "Personally, I think we have lost the chance to win promotion this season." Even more amazing is that the former Wimbledon supremo went through the entire interview without mentioning the word Wales! |
