Gary Croft Hoping to be Eligible for Welsh Call-Up

City's Gary Croft is hoping to be confirmed as eligible to play for Wales after discovering he has a grandparent born in the principality. The wing-back has represented England as an Under-21, but with a senior call unlikely from Sven Goran-Erikkson, Wales boss Mark Hughes could have a new defender.

Croft has four England under-21 caps to his name, and was born in Burton-on-Trent but believes it's possible that he could play for Wales, and with an England call from Sven Goran-Erikkson unlikely, Croft hopes to give Mark Hughes more defensive options. It could be quite ironic. Under the silly system of which countries players could play for, Englishman Croft, who has represented England at youth levels, could play against his country for Wales in the upcoming World Cup qualification matches! Defender Ben Thatcher recently was granted to play for Wales after finding Welsh-born relatives, despite the Leicester City man having represented England at youth levels, so Croft could find himself in a Wales shirt quite soon! |
