Margetson Hopes for New Contract

Cardiff City 'keeper Martyn Margetson is hoping to get an extension to his contract, with his current deal ending at the end of the season.

The Wales 'B' international has taken over Neil Alexander as City's number one, and a number of impressive displays between the sticks has left the Neath-born 'keeper with ambitions of a place in Mark Hughes' Wales squad.

Margetson was voted man of the match for the clean-sheet he kept against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, although the decision met by surprise from the majority of he home support. However, the former Huddersfield Town man has done well to keep Alexander out of the side, and a possible extension could see him end his career at Ninian Park.

"It is down to me now to prove I'm worthy of a new deal at City." said the 32-year-old.

"And I also want to impress Mark Hughes sufficiently to get back into the Wales squad. It's a double target.

"For the contract, I don't think anything will be happening until the end of the season. I definitely want to stay and I have made no secret of that fact."
