Gavin Gordon is set to resume full training following about a week on the sidelines due to an appendicitis scare and a bout of illness. The forward, whose contract expires at the end of the campaign, knows he faces an uphill struggle to get back into Lennie Lawrence's starting line-up.

set to resume full layer in the week after being out for over about 10 days
following an appendicitis scare and a bout of illness. Gordon has struggled to get much first-team recognition this season due to the form of Robert Earnshaw, Alan Lee and Peter Thorne and with Andy Campbell also ahead of the forward in the striking picking order, Gordon knows he will have to work wonders to get himself back into Lennie Lawrence's starting line-up. The former Lincoln City target man had a spell up-front alongside Robert Earnshaw earlier in the season due to an injury crisis in the striking department, and had some limited success with a goal and a man of the match performance away to Coventry City the highlight. However, the resurgence of Stuart Fleetwood from the youth team and a number of strikers on-form means Gordon is unlikely to feature heavily as City's league campaign reaches its end. The 24-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season, but Lennie Lawrence has insisted that all players whose deals end in May will get the chance to prove themselves. Gordon's chance could come towards the end of March when City face Wrexham in the FAW Premier Cup semi-final at the Racecourse. The City boss is likely to use the game, which is live on BBC Wales television, to field a number of fringe, reserve and youth team players. |
