City 'keeper Martyn Margetson has been successful in an appeal to get his recent red card against Coventry City rescinded. The 32-year-old has never been sent-off in his career, and as well as keeping that record, he will now be able to play against Reading next Tuesday.

Cardiff City 'keeper Martyn Margetson has been successful in his appeal to get his 1-match ban for the sending-off against Coventry City last Tuesday rescinded, and will now face no ban at all.

The 32-year-old has never been sent-off in his career, and was keen to keep that record despite being shown red after allegedly bringing down Sky Blues forward Julian Joachim as he charged towards goal. A penalty was given, which was neatly tucked away by McSheffrey to give the visitors all three points.

The former Huddersfield Town shot-stopper sent a video to the Football Association of Wales, who appeals for incidents against Cardiff City are sent too, and replays have shown that no contract was made between Margetson and the oncoming striker, meaning the ban has been abolished and the red card removed from his record.

Margetson is out-of-contract at the end of the season, and a ban would have seen Alexander replace him for the one game and knowing predictable Lennie Lawrence, he would not have changed things back. Therefore this is fantastic news for the on-form 'keeper, who is still hoping to earn his a first Welsh cap of his career despite representing his nation at all other levels other than senior.

Had the suspension stood, Margetson would not have been allowed to play for Cardiff's match next Tuesday against promotion hopefuls Reading at Ninian Park.
