Cardiff City will face Kidderminster Harriers in the first round of the League Cup at Aggrborough. The City were knocked out at the second round stage of the Carling-sponsored competition last term by West Ham United.

Cardiff City face a tricky trip to Third Division outfit Kidderminster Harriers in the first round of the League Cup. The Bluebirds will make their first visit to Aggrborough since February 2001 on August 24th hoping for a repeat of the 4-2 away win that day with Scott Young, Jason Bowen, Daniel Gabbidon and Robert Earnshaw on the scoresheet for the visitors in a game that was City's only away league encounter against the Midlands outfit.

The two sides have met on several occasions in the Welsh Cup, most recently a 3-1 defeat in 1989 which ended City's hopes of lifting the trophy in 1989.

The Bluebirds were seeded for the draw which is split into north and south sections, but missed out on possible derby encounters with Bristol or Swansea City. Last season City kicked off their League Cup campaign with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Leyton Orient infront of little over 4,000 spectators, but were beaten in the next round by West Ham United who came from behind to win 3-2 as the Sky television cameras looked on.

The tie of the first round looks to be the Yorkshire derby between Leeds United and Huddersfield Town at Elland Road. Milton Keynes Dons visit Peterborough United in their first League Cup game under the new 'franchised' name, whilst league new-boys Chester City face a tough trip north to the Stadium of Light where they will face Mick McCarthy's Sunderland. All ties will be played week commencing 23rd August.
