The club squad numbers for the 2004/2005 season have been released, with few notable changes. Tony Warner has been handed the number one shirt after moving to Ninian Park on a free transfer, whilst another recent acquisition Robert Page has been allotted the number five jersey.
Cardiff City Football Club have released the club squad numbers for the 2004/2005 season, with few changes from last season. The most notable change is the number one jersey going to new acquisition Tony Warner, indicating the former Millwall shot stopper will be first choice 'keeper at Ninian Park at the start of the season.
Martyn Margetson has been relegated to number 13, whilst club searching Neil Alexander has been knocked right down the list to 23. Midfielder Gareth Whalley has also dropped heavily in the numbers, now emblazing 24 on his back, and a move away from Ninian Park is still on the cards following the well publicised bonus row surrounding the player towards the end of last season.
New signing Robert Page takes Spencer Prior's number 5 top, whilst City's first summer purchase Lee Bullock takes number 18. The number 4 shirt has been left, indicating there is another signing on the way and with West Bromwich Albion's Sean Gregan being linked, the defensive midfielder could be wearing that particular jersey next term.
The launch of the Bluebirds' academy have seen a number of youngsters, well groomed by Paul Wilkinson last term, earn themselves squad numbers. Several younger players impressed as the reserves narrowly missed out on silverware last season after losing a league play-off to Reading, and Nicky Fish, Byron Anthony, Danny Thomas, Michael Parkins, Richard Ingram, Kirk Huggins and Cameron Jerome have been rewarded with squad numbers as a result.
